Boys Junior Varsity West Soccer vs. Jenison High School
3.0 years ago | Ben Hondorp
Lose: 1 - 1
The Dux JV Soccer team hosted Jenison, earning a hard fought draw 1-1. Pace Bittrick's goal in the first half gave the Dux the early lead, but a late miscue in back led to an own goal, drawing Jenison level.  "We played a decent first half, but had some difficulty adjusting to their physicality on the ball. Offensively, we didn't attack with the same energy and purpose in the second half, and Jension was able to grab a bit of the momentum back. Reagan Page had a great game in net tonight, keeping us in the match after the equalizer. We were good enough to earn the tie tonight and remain unbeaten at home. Our boys should be proud of that."

Lose: 1 - 1
The Dux JV soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw against the Chix on Tuesday night. Micah Henry gave the Dux a 1-0 lead in the first half, but the Chix battled back and got the equalizer in the second half. Both teams traded offensive chances and defended really well. Lucas Smith and Reagan Page were fantastic between the pipes, and the Dux back four remained disciplined, organized and tenacious against a good attacking Chix team. "Really pleased with the energy and attention to detail tonight, especially in the first half. We were able to set the tone and tempo when we had the wind, and kept them on their heels most of the first half. We defended really well, especially in the second half, and did a much better job of playing to feet and using our width tonight. Zeeland East is a very solid team, our boys should be proud of the result - well earned and well deserved."

Lose: 2 - 6
The boys JV soccer team gave up 3 goals in each half en route to a 2-6 defeat to the hosts of Grand Rapids Union. Micah Henry scored in the first half, while Logan Bomers scored for the Dux in the second half.  "We got beat by a better team today. Despite playing okay and managing most of the game fairly well, Union's speed and skill were a bit much for us tonight on their home field. Proud of the resiliency of our group tonight, especially the guys who stepped up coming in off the bench. They really sparked some things for us on both sides of the ball, and upped the energy level - especially in the second half."

Win: 1 - 0
The Dux JV boys soccer team overcame a weather delay and a sluggish start to earn a 1-0 win over Wyoming. After struggling most of the half to find any sort of rhythm and connectivity, Micah Henry capitalized on Wolves miscue near midfield. After intercepting a misplayed ball, Henry beat two defenders and slipped the ball passed a diving keeper to seal the win. "Honestly, we were fortunate to get the win tonight. We did not play with the same confidence or urgency we have all season. However, we made some adjustments at half and were able to finish the game playing our style and tempo. Happy with the result and how we bounced back after a really slow start tonight."

Boys Junior Varsity West Soccer vs. Reeths-Puffer High School

Lose: 1 - 1
The Dux JV soccer team made their second trip to Muskegon this week, earning a hard fought 1-1 draw against Reeths Puffer. Micah Henry scored the lone goal for the Dux in the first half. Brayan Alonzo cut the ball back on the right side at the top of the penalty box and crossed the ball to Sam DiLaura. DiLaura beat a defender before slipping the ball in to Henry for the goal. Less than 10 minutes into the second half, Reeths Puffer got the equalizer. "We played well enough to win tonight against a solid Reeths Puffer team. We possessed the ball well and moved the ball from flank to flank much better than we did on Tuesday against Mona Shores. Unfortunately, we continue to struggle in the final third - finding that final pass, cutting the ball back or taking one too many touches near goal. The energy and effort were solid, and our defensive back four managed their speed up top and counterattacking direct style of play reasonably well all night. Not the result we were hoping for, but we continue learning and growing as a team." Lucas Smith made 7 saves in net for the Dux. The Dux are 3-1-1 on the season.

Lose: 0 - 4
The Dux JV soccer team lost their first OK Green conference match to a strong and physical Mona Shores squad, 0-4. Despite generating some quality chances in the first half, the potent Dux attack struggled in the final third and was unable to find the back of the net.  "Offensively, our timing was a bit off tonight and we were a bit stagnant and reactive. While we did possess and move the ball well for long stretches throughout the match, we just weren't very efficient in the final third. Defensively, we made some uncharacteristic and untimely errors which led to goals for Mona Shores. Credit Mona's physicality and strength, defense and solid goal keeping throughout the game. We had some quality chances - missed a penalty kick, a beautiful head goal called back because of an offsides call... This is a match we will learn from and become better as a result." The Dux fall to 3-1 on the season.

Assisting on the goals were Brayan Alonso, Zimmer, Luis Parra, Henry, Smith and Ramsdell. Smith and Reagan Page again split time in net to earn the shutout. "We played simple and efficient soccer on a very fast surface tonight. Really impressed with our ability to adapt to the surface and still play within ourselves and system. We made some great adjustments at halftime and scored in a variety of ways, while snuffing out and breaking up their counter attack. Another solid effort as a team, really proud of everyone's contributions and continued commitment to excellence." The Dux are 3-0 on the season, and are off until next Tuesday when they travel to Mona Shores for a conference match with the Sailors.

Win: 7 - 0
The JV Dux boys soccer team started the 2021 season with a bang last night, defeating Wayland 7-0. Micah Henry led the Dux with 4 goals and an assist. Logan Bomers added 2 goals and Brandon Taylor had a goal. Sam DiLaura and Zack Ramsdell had 2 assists each, while Luis Parra added an assist as well. Lucas Smith and Reagan Page shared time to earn the shutout between the pipes for the Dux. "Very pleased with our overall effort and commitment to excellence tonight - offensively, we moved the ball well at times and capitalized on our scoring opportunities. Defensively, we were fairly organized and aggressive. The boys were able to dictate the style and pace of play for most of the match, and our defense was stout in limiting the number of quality chances Wayland was able to generate. We still have a lot of work to do on both sides of the ball, but our boys should be proud of the strong showing we had tonight for our first match of the season." The Dux are 1-0 on the season and travel to Black River for a 4:00pm non-conference match. Great win boys, let's keep the momentum going!
