Varsity Baseball Wins 14th Annual Wooden Bat Tournament

Zeeland West held off Thornapple Kellogg for a 5-4 victory on Saturday to win the 14th Annual Wooden Bat Tournament presented by Zeeland Farm Services and Elegant Business Solutions. 

 

Carter Hughes started the game for Zeeland West. The righthander allowed three hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out three and walking zero. Josh Agar and Hayden Reider entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Agar recorded the last four outs to earn the win for the Dux.

 

Jack Aalderink, Corey Holtrust, Carson Gulker, and Joe Steele each collected one hit to lead Zeeland West offensive attack.

 

“It is fun to see the community come together to make an event like this happen,” noted Dux head coach Adam Locker, “it is also great to see the boys play well and come away with the trophy.” Along with ZFS and Elegant Business Solutions, the Westside Rattlers, Terri’s Window Treatments, Cornerstone Real Estate Management, and Dick’s Sporting Goods each contributed to making this event happen. “It feels like summer is close when you see the sun out and hear the crack of a wooden bat,” said Coach Locker, “it is a great event for all of the players and for all of the fans that showed up today.”

 

Zeeland West (17-4 overall, 8-1 OK Green) will take the entire baseball program to LMCU Ballpark for Family Night presented by Zeeland Farm Services, Elegant Business Solutions, Westside Rattlers Baseball, and SERVPRO of South & Northwest Grand Rapids. All three teams are set to take on Unity Christian High School with the first pitch set to be thrown for the Freshmen game at 4:00p. The Junior Varsity team is set to play at 5:45p and the Varsity set to play at 7:30p.
