Win: 1.00 - 0.00
The Dux JV boys soccer team overcame a lengthy weather delay and wet field en route to a shortened 1-0 win over Wyoming last night. Due to the weather delay, the JV game was shortened to a single 35 minute game, which was enough for the Dux to secure the win. Zach Anderson played a perfectly weighted and angled through ball to Graham VanDort who slipped it past the onrushing keeper and into the back of the net. Reagan Page made 4 saves in net for the Dux, and the defensive unit held tough against a speedy and skilled Wolves attack. "Despite never really settling into the game offensively, we were able to capitalize on an opportunity when it presented itself. Really proud of our boys in overcoming a unique set of circumstances and leaving here with the win. Defensively, we were very solid and organized." The Dux host Grand Rapids Union on Thursday to wrap up conference play.

Lose: 1.00 - 1.00
The Dux JV boys soccer team jumped out to an early lead over the visiting Sailors of Mona Shores Tuesday night, but could not sustain it in the second half, resulting in a 1-1 draw. Pace Bittrick scored the lone goal for the Dux, and Reagan Page made 8 saves in net, including a penalty kick in the second half.  "Defensively, we were pretty consistent and strong most of the game, but we didn't execute the way we are capable of in the second half. We played to their strengths rather than ours, and let one slip away. Proud of our effort, the boys continue making progress and growing together." The Dux host Reeths-Puffer on Thursday night, and are 1-2-1 on the season. (1-1-1 in the OK Green).

Boys Junior Varsity West Soccer vs. Holland High School

Lose: -
The Dux JV boys soccer fought valiantly, but came up a little short falling to very talented and dangerous Holland team 1-2. The Dux found themselves down 0-2 after the first half, and struggled to find much of a rhythm offensively. A small tactical change at halftime allowed the Dux to settle in defensively, and connect some passes on the counterattack. Midway through the second half, Joel Meengs snuck around the outside defender before driving the endline and floating a ball to the near post. Isaac Lambrix's header just skimmed over the bar. The Dux made it interesting in the final 10 minutes when a lofted ball into the box found Pace Bittrick, who flicked it to the far post where Christian Lichtenwalner hit it off the half bounce and smashed it into the back of the net giving the Dux some life. Unfortunately, their comeback came up a little short. "Holland is a very dangerous team that has shown the capability of running up the score on teams. Our boys bought into a tactical change at halftime and really committed to disrupting their rhythm and movement on the ball. Our defensive shape was really tight and organized, and we were able to counter with numbers at appropriate times. Very proud of our resiliency against a tough Holland team."  The Dux are 1-2 on the season, and 1-1 in the OK Green. They return to action on Tuesday of next week when they host Mona Shores.

Boys Junior Varsity West Soccer vs. Zeeland East High School

Win: 2.00 - 1.00
The Dux JV boys soccer team opened their conference season with a win over Zeeland East, 2-1 on their home field. After a scoreless yet very competitive half, the Dux struck first. After making a save in goal, Reagan Page punted the ball towards midfield. Pace Bittrick took the ball out of the air on a turn and blew by the last Chix defender, before slipping the ball to the side of the onrushing keeper. The Chix battled back and equalized on a great direct kick from the right side, which found the side netting of the far post beyond the outstretched hands of Page. However, the tie did not last for long. With about 10 minutes to go, Andrew Zimmer shook off a defender in the midfield and drove a ball to the opposite to Christian Lichtenwalner, who beat his defender with a clever turn before firing the ball back across the goal. "Defensively, we were solid throughout the entire match. We did a great job of battling and remaining poised in one on one situations, and our shape was much more defined tonight. Our midfield did a good job of winning 50 50 balls and keeping the ball moving. Offensively, we had longer spells of possession and movement of the ball, which led to some quality scoring chances. Our boys played very well in a tightly contested rivalry game against a skilled and experienced Zeeland East team. Nice win boys!" The Dux are 1-1 on the season, and 1-0 in the OK Green. They return to action next Tuesday against Holland.

Boys Junior Varsity West Soccer vs. Wayland Union High School

Lose: 1.00 - 2.00
The JV Dux soccer team opened their season on the road against a tough and physical Wayland team. Reagan Page made 3 tremendous saves in the first 35 minutes to keep the score 0-0 heading into the half. In the second half, the Dux settled in and played with more patience and confidence, capturing the run of play for a majority of the half. After falling behind 0-1 with 20 minutes to go, Graham VanDort delivered a beautiful left footed free kick into the box. Logan Bomers used his head to flick it up and over the outstretched hands of the Wildcat keeper to knot the score at 1-1. Shortly after, Wayland scored on a breakaway taking a 2-1 lead. The Dux thought they evened the score - twice over the next 5 minutes - only to have both goals called back due to offsides calls. "For our first game as a young group, we grew into the game and started figuring some things out in terms of pacing, spacing and communication. Offensively, we are a relatively young team and our movement off of the ball improved over the course of the match. Defensively, we did a good job of dictating where Wayland could attack, and came up a bit short. Reagan and Blake played well between the pipes and we did a better job of controlling the tempo and movement of the ball through the middle of the field in the second half. Overall, very impressed with how eager this young team is to learn and compete. Really excited for us moving forward."
