HOLLAND CHRISTIAN HIGH SCHOOL: 37
A 20-0 first quarter score provided the JV Dux with enough cushion to hold off a furious Holland Christian comeback, winning by a final score of 43-37.
"All of the credit goes to Holland Christian," Coach Ray said. "They increased their intensity and we did not match them. We got sloppy on offense and defense, and it allowed our opponents to gain some confidence."
Bergen Loeprich ('22) and Drew Weenum ('22) led the Dux with 11 points apiece. Kylan Arnold ('22) scored seven points, and Mitch Middleton ('22) added five.
"Mitch had what was probably the shot of the night for us," Coach Ray said. "To end a rough third quarter with a big three-pointer was big for our momentum going into the fourth quarter. He shot that thing with confidence. We needed it."
In the fourth quarter, Weenum and Arnold shot a combined 8/8 from the free throw line to keep the Maroons at bay. The Dux are back in action Thursday night at the Dutch Dome, where they will face Holland High School. Tip off is at approximately 6:30pm.
"While we certainly hope to get off to another quick start, I am more concerned with sustaining our energy and intensity throughout the entirety of a 32-minute game," Coach Ray said. "We cannot afford to only play eight good minutes moving forward."
