HOLLAND CHRISTIAN HIGH SCHOOL: 35
The JV Dux rebounded with a big conference victory against the Holland Christian JV team on Thursday night. In what could be categorized as a back-and-forth affair, the Dux held on in the end, winning 37-35. Avery Alderink led the Dux with 13 points, including 7 points in the 4th quarter. "Avery was our unquestioned leader tonight. I thought this was his best all-around game of the season," Coach Ray said. "His offensive production was directly tied to his engagement, energy, and awareness on the defensive end and on the glass. Without his defense, I'm not sure if we would have come away with a victory." Terick DeJonge scored 10 points, and guards Joe Steele, Jake Kender, and Walter Bouvier combined to play excellent defense. "Our preparation for this game centered on stopping Holland Christian's outside threat, who had more than 20 points against us the first time around," Coach Ray said. "Because of our defensive focus, we held him to only two points. In a game this close, that is huge for our confidence and success." Nick Powers provided tough post defense and rebounding, and the bench was active and engaged all night. Next week, the Dux continue the second round of conference play with home games against Holland JV and Hamilton JV.
