The Dux girls varsity soccer team defeated Holland 2-0 in their home opener. It was the first time the Dux have been on their game this season, and they used a total team effort in dominating the Dutch from the opening whistle. Taylor Twork needed to make just 2 saves in goal, as the Dux defense shut down a fast and physical Dutch offense. Abby Winn (FR) scored both goals for the Dux, one in each half. Abby's first goal came off of an assist from older sister Kylee (SR). After intercepting a ball near midfield, Kylee played a long ball in behind the Dutch defense into the path of her sister. Abby drove towards the net before driving the ball to the opposite corner.
Winn's second goal came midway through the second half. After intercepting a ball inside the Dutch penalty box, Abby smashed a shot up and over the right shoulder of the Dutch keeper.
"We played with a lot of confidence and poise tonight. The difference was the hold-up play, vision and distribution of the ball by our center midfielders (Callie Dobrinski (JR), Makenna Anderson (JR), Keke Seguara (FR), Ari Rodriguez (JR) and Andrea Valdes (SR). They were physical, aggressive, and made good decisions throughout the match, which made it difficult for the Dutch to defend. We kept them on their heels most of the game. I am very proud of the way everyone responded and stepped up today."
The Dux move to 5-1-1 on the season (2-1-1 OK Green) and host Byron Center on Wednesday.
