Congratulations to the 2025 Hall of Fame Inductees
In left to right order (in the photo):Derek Kingshott - Derek graduated from Zeeland West in 2008 as an accomplished student-athlete participating in basketball, football and track and field. In basketball, Derek was a two time all conference player in the 2007 and 2008 season and was named to the BCAM All-State Team following the 2007-08 season. Similar to basketball, Derek was a two time all conference football player, two time member of the Holland Sentinel All-Area team, member of the Grand Rapids Press Dream Team in 2006 and a member of the Zeeland West State Championship football team in 2006. On the track, Derek was all conference in 2008 and was a member of the Track and Field State Championship Relay teams in both the 1600 and 3200. Girls Varsity West SoftballZeeland West Varsity Dux had trouble keeping up with Byron Center Varsity Bulldogs in a 13-3 loss on Thursday.Zeeland West Varsity Dux got on the board in the first inning after Emily Kragt homered to left field, scoring three runs.Byron Center Varsity Bulldogs flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fourth, scoring five runs on six hits to take the lead, 7-3. Girls Varsity West SoccerThe Dux varsity soccer team came up short in their season opener against the Grandville Tuesday night, falling to the Bulldogs 0-1. The lone goal of the match was scored midway through the first half. Despite growing into the match and generating some really solid scoring opportunities towards the end of the first half and throughout the second half, the Dux were unable to find the back of the net. "We struggled initially in the first half getting out of our own end, battling the wind and their pace through the middle. We definitely had some first game jitters. However, I felt we grew into the match and were much more confident and comfortable the final 10-15 minutes leading into the break. We did a much better job of moving the ball and finding pockets of space in possession in the second half, generating 3-4 really good chances on net. Aiden’s work ethic, dedication, and leadership have set a strong example for his team. From early mornings to late nights, he’s shown what it takes to succeed. Emmaline Kouw’s wrestling season ended after a 9-0 loss in the blood rounds, just one match short of earning All-State honors. West Boys Golf Information Meetings
Boys Varsity West GolfThere will be two informational meetings for any West boy interested in playing golf this spring on Tuesday, February 25 , before school at 7:15 a.m. or after school at 2:50 p.m. in room D117 at West. The meeting options are for players only. Any interested players should plan on attending. We will review the plan for tryouts as our season officially begins on Monday, March 10. All prospective players are reminded to be sure everything is taken care of on FinalForms (except the fee) before trying out. Swimming Wins on Senior Night
Boys Varsity Swimming/diving Co-opZeeland Boys Swim and Dive defeated Forest Hills Northern 102.5-80.5 on Tuesday, February 11 at the Zeeland Natatorium. The meet was full of energy and emotions. Due to it being senior night, the stands were packed, adding great energy to the meet. Coach Andrew Scheerhorn commented, “I’m glad we were able to celebrate our seniors, they’ve done a lot for the program. This was a conference meet so winning it was a great thing as well. Capping it off with a couple of pool records from Owen Stevens was really awesome to see too. His hard work is never questioned, his discipline is amazing, he's taken it this far, and being able to set those pool records was really cool to see.” Sr. Owen Stevens set pool records in the 200 IM and the 500 Free. Boys Varsity West BasketballThe Zeeland West boys basketball team fell short 38-42 to a tough East Grand Rapids High School. Coach Klyn said, “I am pleased of how our guys battled back being down 11-3 to start the game.” Klyn also stated, “a play here a play there results in a win.” The MVP of the night was Keaton Hendricks, scoring 12 points. Hendricks said, “great team effort and proud of our guys for not giving up.”

Boys Varsity Swimming/diving Co-opZeeland Varsity Boys Swim and Dive took a close win against Holland christian 91-92 on January 30th at the Zeeland Natatorium. The meet was close the whole time down to the final relay, there was lots of tension which led to a lot of great swims and energy in the pool. Coach Scheerhorn said,”This was the closest meet we had all season, and being able to show up and race to the finish is exciting for everyone.” Soph. Gibson Meyering secured himself another state cut by qualifying in the 100 fly. The meet was filled with a lot of personal best times from the team. Soph. Hudson Kosten said, Though I didn't get a personal best, it was a really fun meet and very close.”

Boys Varsity Swimming/diving Co-opZeeland Varsity Boys Swim and Dive beat NorthView on January 23rd at the Zeeland natatorium by a score of 104-81 Coach Scheerhorn said,”After all of the snow days it's hard to know where we are, yet we had some really good races and it's nice to get a win against one of the teams in our conference. ” Soph. Gibson Meyering got a MISCA cut in the 500 free and Soph. Branton Posthumus got a MISCA cut in the 100 backstroke. Sr. Lucas Dattels said , “We had a harder aerobic set before this meet, but we persevered through and did really well.”

Coach Klyn said, “A game where just a few mistakes could’ve decided the outcome. Every game we are getting better at something.” The leading scorer was Sr. Khi Anderson with 17 points. Anderson stated, “we had some mistakes that resulted in the outcome, but overall it was a good game, lots to learn from.”

Dux Cheer Places 2nd at LMCCOA Scholarship Invite
Girls Varsity West Comp CheerThe Zeeland West Cheer team competed in the LMCCOA Scholarship Invite at Byron Center High School on January 25. The girls placed second with a score of 740.8. Their coach Emillie Gort said “I thought the girls competed very well. They came out with a lot of energy. Although I think the scores didn’t reflect their effort, we got robbed of first place. This was a good trial run for regionals because a lot of the teams at LMCCOA, we compete with at regionals. We are really proud of our senior Riley Howe for earning the scholarship, she works very hard on the mat and off.” The girls scored 226.5 in round one, 218.1 in round 2, and 296.2 in round 3. Sr. Riley Howe earned a scholarship through this invitational. Howe said “I thought that our competition went really well. We had a very strong round one, and all of our jumps were on time. Our round two was different from previous competitions, but it scored better, and all of our skills went well

CoEd Varsity West WrestlingThe Zeeland West Varsity Wrestling team wrestled at the OK Black Conference Tournament at Hamilton on Friday night. Getting 1st place on the night were Jrs. Aidan Chavez, Austin Ulberg and Sr. Justin Sanchez. Placing 3rd was Fr. Nolan Overway, and placing 4th on the night were Frs. Greyson Thut and Luke Walters. Varsity Head Coach Cody Stewart mentioned, “As a team tonight we competed very well for the end of our season which is very good. My favorite part about this whole season was watching our boys as a team learn and grow each week.” Varsity Assistant Coach Kelly Lepley stated, “Both our underclassmen and upperclassmen got amazing wins this season. CoEd Varsity West WrestlingThe Zeeland West Wrestling team lost 15-60 away at Holland High Wednesday night. Winning matches on the night were Fr. Madi Galaviz, Soph. Emmaline Kouw, Jrs. Aidan Chavez, Austin Ulberg, and Sr. Justin Sanchez. Varsity Assistant Coach Kelly Lepley stated, “We as a team dug deep to try to get some wins. It didn’t go our way tonight, but we can hope for more work before our varsity conference tournament on Friday.” Sanchez commented, “My match started pretty slow but as it went on, it came out faster. It was a good hard fought match that I won.” The DUX had some tough matches Wednesday night and fought their hardest, but they ended up losing. On Friday, the Varsity team will be competing at the OK Black Conference Meet held by Hamilton at 5 and the JV team will be competing Saturday morning for their JV Conference Meet.

CoEd Varsity West WrestlingOn senior night, the Zeeland West Varsity Wrestling team lost to rivals Zeeland East 51-21 and won 48-35 against Wyoming at home Wednesday night. Going undefeated on the night were Jrs. Aiden Chavez, Sam Taylor, Austin Ulberg, Frs. Daniel Lozano and Taylor Shoemaker. Going 1-1 on the night as well were Jr. Jackson Burkhour, Frs. Greyson Thut and Luke Walters. Varsity Head Coach Cody Stewart remarked, “As a team we competed well against East. We gutted some matches and it was a close win but we ended up losing. As we went against Wyoming, we lost a bit of energy but we pulled through and ended our home season with a win.” Walters commented, “I did pretty good during my matches and I stayed well on my feet. CoEd Varsity West WrestlingOn Wednesday night Zeeland West Varsity Wrestling lost to Zeeland East by a score of 63-12 in Districts. Going undefeated were Fr Noland Overway, and Jrs Sam Taylor, and Jrs Austin Ubelry. Assistant coach Kelly Lepley remarked, “It's a fun environment to come over and wrestle against a rival. We have a young team, not one senior in line, but we're excited to see what next year holds for our young team.” Varsity Head Coach Coday Stewart stated after Lepley, “Yeah, a great environment to come into, the team competed well as our year went on. We are proud of them and the work they put in.” Noland mentioned, “I was nervous to do good. I learned more and more as the days progressed, and learned from my mistakes to do better.”
