The Zeeland West Dux Varsity Soccer Team defeated the Zeeland East Chix 3-2 on Monday Night at the East field. Zeeland West kicked off the game with an early goal by Jr. Owen Frego off the pass from Sr. Zach Anderson. The Chix answered with a goal to tie up the game 1-1. The game increased in intensity in the second half when The Dux' Jr. Owen Frego got his second goal of the game with 18 minutes left in the game. 

The Chix once again fought back with a goal of their own to tie it up 2-2. Sr. Isaac Lambrix knocked in a goal at the 9-minute mark remaining in the second half. The Chix were unable to answer this one, as the Dux held them off to win the game 3-2. Coach Andy Hondorp commented on the game, “This is one of my favorite games of the year. Anytime we play these guys, I think both teams bring the best out of each other… We came out with much more fire and intensity in the second half, and we really took them out of their game.” 

The leading scorer Jr. Owen Frego added, ‘We were really composed, and we dominated every aspect of the game. We were able to come out with a win and it feels good.”

The West Varsity Soccer Team defeated Grand Rapids Union 4-3 at home Thursday night. The game began with a goal by Grand Rapids Union in the opening minutes, but the Dux answered with a goal by Jr. Kiah Hoffer to tie up the game 1-1 early in the first half. The rest of the half was all Grand Rapids Union as they tacked on two more goals to put the Dux down 1-3 at halftime. 

The Dux upped their game in the second half to start their comeback. Four minutes into the second half, Sr. Zach Anderson scored, and then seven minutes later, Jr. Kiah Hoffer scored his second goal to tie up the game. Sr. Kyler Zwagerman scored the final goal to put the Dux up 4-3 with twenty minutes left in the game. The Dux stood defensively and were able to successfully hold off Grand Rapids Union to complete the 2nd half shut-out and the win. Coach Andy Hondorp reflected, “They made us pay early. We were very fortunate to regather ourselves and do what we’ve been working on so diligently.” The two-goal scorer Jr. Kiah Hoffer added, “It was an intense game, and we really battled through the hard times.”

The Varsity Dux Soccer Team tied Holland Christian Monday evening 2-2. The Dux trailed 2-1 at the half. Sr. Captain Zach Anderson scored the first goal in a heavy pursuit against another Holland Christian player. Sr. Captain, Christian Lichtenwalner commented, “We played with the most energy we had all year.” The Dux gave it their all along the way. Soph, Wyatt Keeler scored the second goal tying the game in the second half with 17:45 left.  Head coach Andrew Hondorp commented on the second half of the game “I thought we tightened some things up, especially in the second half. We took away some things that they (Holland Chrisitan) were doing well in the first half that we were kind of allowing them to do. We really just tightened up the ship.” The Dux face Hamilton today at 5:45pm. 

We are quickly approaching summer and with that we are gearing up for a busy summer of soccer opportunities that will begin the week after school lets out. We once again will be playing in the Holland Summer league on Tuesdays and will have our open fields on Thursdays. Attached to this flyer are the dates and times of everything we are offering including the summer league schedule and also an off-season training regimen which will help get your son in shape for the upcoming season. We also have our team camp registration which will take place from July 14-18. Please let me know if you have any questions!
