J.V. Soccer hosts Black River

Updated on 06/10/2022

The J.V. Dux had a decisive victory against the River Rats of Black River High School on Monday evening.  The Dux got off to a great start with a potent attack when Captain Ethan Bosch opened the scoring in the first few minutes.  Not long after he added another goal when Joshua Kroll played a beautiful pass from the right wing to find Bosch all alone on the left.  With only 10 minutes played it was 2-0 in favor of the Dux.

The Dux were able to score two more goals to make it 4-0 and it seemed like they had put the game out of reach for the River Rats but the Dux made some mental mistakes and the Rats took advantage.  With only minutes left in the first half the River Rats were able to cut their deficit in half by scoring two quick goals.  The score was 4-2 at the break.

The 2nd half started with the Dux regaining their focus.  Goalkeeper Aiden Kallemyn along with the Dux Defense were able to keep the River Rats from scoring at all in the 2nd half.  Two more goals were scored by the Dux in the 2nd half and the final score was 6-2.   Goals for the Dux were scored by Joe O'Connor, Spencer Thierran, 2 for Ethan Bosch, and 2 for Austin Bomers.  Assists for the Dux were made by Joshua Kroll, Jaxon Sytsema, Ethan Bosch, and Isaac Hondorp.

J.V. Soccer hosts Wayland

Updated on 06/10/2022

The J.V. Dux boy's soccer team hosted the Wildcats of Wayland on Saturday morning.  The Wildcats started the game off with a lot of energy that seemed to catch the Dux a bit off guard.  As the first half progressed the Dux were able to get comfortable and find their rhythm which helped them break down the Wildcat defense.

The opening goal of the game came when captain Ethan Bosch was able to take the ball down the wing to the end line and play a pass back to the top of the box where freshman captain Isaac Hondorp was waiting and with his first touch took a beautiful shot to the far post that hit the post and went in.

The Dux had more chances throughout the first half but were unable to finish any of them. The Wildcats created chances as well and had shots on target but captain Caden Koetje made some amazing saves and made sure the Dux kept the score at 1-0 when halftime was reached.

The 2nd half saw the Dux get right back into their rhythm of short passing and creative build up play and it eventually led to another goal by Austin Bomers when he was able to get past the Wildcat defense which caused their keeper to have to come off his line and with a perfectly placed shot he put the ball over the keeper and into the back of the net.

The game ended 2-0 in favor of the Dux and goal keepers Aiden Kallemyn and Caden Koetje both had a great game defending the Zeeland goal and along with the Dux defense are credited with the clean sheet.

J.V. Boy's Soccer vs. Allendale

Updated on 06/10/2022

The Dux hosted Allendale on Saturday morning.  The J.V. Dux got off to a great start when Freshman Keigan Wiersma dribbled through the Allendale defense and poked the ball around the keeper for the first goal of the game.   Another goal followed soon after when Connor Dobrinski set up Ethan Bosch in the box to take a shot that left the keeper unable to react.  The halftime score was 2-0 in favor of the Dux.

The Dux were still in control in the 2nd half and the defense continued to keep the Allendale attack away from the Zeeland goal.  Two more goals were put in by the Dux and the score at the final whistle was 4-0.  Goals for the Dux were scored by Kiegan Wiersma, Ethan Bosch, Xander Goodrich, and Joshua Kroll.  Connor Dobrinski recorded 2 assists and Ethan Bosch had 1.   Goalies Caden Koetje and Aden Kallemeyn earned the clean sheet for the Dux.

J.V. Boy's Soccer at Hamilton

Updated on 06/10/2022

The Junior Varsity Boy's Soccer Team saw a return to form on Thursday with a 3-1 win against the Hamilton Hawkeyes.  The Dux were able to control most of the possession at the start of the game with a strong attack that was having trouble finding the back of the net until Freshman Spencer Therrian put a nicely placed shot over the Hamilton goalkeeper.  The rest of the first half saw the Dux create more chances but unable to convert any into goals. The halftime score was 1-0.

The Dux continued to press towards the Hamilton goal in the 2nd half.  Their persistence paid off when Sophomore captain Ethan Bosch was fouled in the Hamilton box and earned the Dux a penalty kick.  The  kick was taken by Bosch and he put it past the keeper to make it 2-0.  The Hawkeyes didn't give up and were able to pull a goal back with a nice shot from distance and make the score 2-1 with over 20 minutes left in the game.

The Hawkeyes pushed for an equalizer but with patient play from the midfielders including Nathan Wilson and captain Isaac Hondorp as well as strong defending by the back line they were not able to find another goal and ended up conceding again when Ethan Bosch was able to put a shot under the keeper for his 2nd goal of the match and 3rd for the Dux.  That was the final goal of the match and the Dux were able to leave Hamilton with a 3-1 win and improve their record to 3-1-1. The Dux will host the Holland Dutch on Monday, September 10.

J.V. Boy's Soccer Draw at HCHS 1-1

Updated on 06/10/2022

The J.V. soccer team traveled to Holland Christian for a match on Tuesday evening.  The Dux started off strong and were able to control the pace of the game for most of the first half.  A few mental mistakes led to HC having some chances that luckily weren't converted into goals and the Dux also created some good chances but were unable to finish.  At halftime the game was still scoreless.

The beginning of the 2nd half saw the Dux again controlling possession and creating chances with their purposeful passing.  It didn't take long for the Dux to open the scoring with some beautiful ball movement and patient build up play that involved passes and movement from everyone on the field.  The final ball came from the right wing when midfielder Brendan Gabrion played a beautiful ball to the other side of the box where Captain Ethan Bosch was unmarked and able to put the ball into the back of the net. The game stayed 1-0 and the Dux looked poised to get their first away result against HC but in the last 2 minutes of the game the HC Maroons threw everything they could forward and were rewarded when the Dux switched off for a moment and allowed HC to break through the defense and score an equalizer. The match ended as a 1-1 draw.
