Congratulations to Freshman Rylee Smith for being selected to the Honorable Mention All State Golf Team for Division II.  This is a great accomplishment as Rylee competed and represented Zeeland West well throughout the season and state final championship.  

Congratulations to West varsity golfer freshman Rylee Smith for earning a 33rd place finish out of 108 competitors by shooting a 92 at the Division 2 State Golf Final held at Forest Akers West Golf Course at MSU.  Rylee became the first freshman to qualify as an individual for the state final tournament in the history of Zeeland West High School.  

The West varsity golf team placed 9th today at the MHSAA Division II Region #9 Tournament.  The Dux were led by Rylee Smith who placed 5th overall with a 86.  Rylee also qualified for the Division II State Final Tournament on Friday October 16 held at Forest Akers Golf Club at MSU.  Morgan Smith added a 92, Anika Doan a 105, and Kairi Beckwith a 110.  

The West varsity girls golf team placed 2nd at the OK Green Conference Tournament held at Pigeon Creek Golf Course today.  The Dux were led by Rylee Smith with an 84 (2nd overall) and was named to the OK Green All Conference Team.  Morgan Smith added an 86 (4th overall) and was also named to the OK Green All Conference Team.  Anika Doan contributed a 95 and was named OK Green Honorable Mention while Kairi Beckwith had a 98.  The team travels to Yankee Springs on Monday to compete in the Regional Tournament.  

The West varsity girls golf team beat Unity Christian today in a non-conference dual held at Pigeon Creek Golf Course.  The Dux were led by a pair of 42's by Morgan Smith and Rylee Smith.  Anika Doan contributed a 46 while Natalie Kernstock added a 53.  The team travels back to Pigeon Creek tomorrow to compete in the OK Green Conference Tournament.  

The West girls varsity golf team placed 2nd at the Grand Rapids Union Jamboree held at Wallinwood Springs Golf Course today.  The Dux were led by Rylee Smith with a 40.  Morgan Smith added a 43, and Anika Doan contributed a 52.  The team travels to Pigeon Creek Golf Course for a non-conference dual with Unity Christian.  

The West varsity girls golf team placed 2nd at the Wooden Shoe Invitational held at Wuskowhan Players Club today.  The Dux were led by Rylee Smith with a 45.  Morgan Smith added a 47, Anika Doan a 53, and Kairi Beckwith a 54.  The team travels to Wallinwood Golf Course on Monday to compete in the Grand Rapids Union Jamboree.

The varsity girls golf team placed 4th at the Zeeland West Jamboree at Crestview today.  The Dux were led by Rylee Smith who was co-medalist for the event with a 38.  Morgan Smith added a 46, Anika Doan a 49, and Kairi Beckwith a 56.  The team travels to Wuskowhan Players Club tomorrow to compete in the Wooden Shoe.

The West varsity golf team placed 3rd at the Reeths Puffer Jambroee held at Lincoln Golf Course today.  The Dux were led by a pair of 45's by Morgan Smith and Rylee Smith.  Anika Doan added a 48 while Kairi Beckwith contributed a 53.  The team hosts the OK Green conference on Tuesday for their home jamboree at Crestview Golf Course.  

The West varsity golf team had a solid showing today at the Unity Christian Invite held at Pigeon Creek Golf Course by placing 4th.  The Dux were led by Rylee Smith with a 42.  Morgan Smith and Anika Doan had a pair of 43's while Kairi Beckwith contributed a 55.  The team travels to Lincoln Golf Club on Wednesday to compete in the Reeths Puffer Jamboree.  

The West varsity girls golf team placed 4th at the Zeeland East Jamboree held at Winding Creek Golf Course today. The Dux were led by Rylee Smith with a 47.  Morgan Smith added a 48, Anika Doan a 52, and Kairi Beckwith a 58.  The team travels to Pigeon Creek Golf Course to compete in the Unity Christian Invite tomorrow.  

The West varsity golf team defeated Allendale and Hamilton today in a non-conference tri held at Crestview Golf Course.  The Dux were led by Rylee Smith with a 43.  Morgan Smith added a 46, Kairi Beckwith a 47, and Anika Doan a 48.  The team hosts West Ottawa on Tuesday for a non-conference dual at Crestview.  

The West varsity golf team placed 2nd at the Mona Shores Jamboree held at Muskegon Country Club today.  The Dux were led by Rylee Smith with a 47 who was the overall medalist for the event.  Anika Doan added a 48 and tied for 2nd place overall.  Morgan Smith contributed a 52 while Natalie Kernstock added a 61.  The team hosts West Ottawa on Tuesday for a non-conference dual at Crestview.  

The West varsity girls golf team placed 3rd out of 6 teams at the Holland Jamboree held at Clearbrook Golf Club today.  The Dux were led by Anika Doan and Morgan Smith with a pair of 46's.  Anika and Morgan tied for 3rd overall.  Rylee Smith contributed a 49 while Marissa Geerlings added a 67.  The Dux host Hamilton and Allendale for a non-conference tri next week Thursday.  

The West varsity girls golf team placed 4th out of 12 teams today at the Thornapple Kellogg Invitational held at Yankee Springs.  The Dux were led by Rylee Smith with a 90.  Anika Doan added a 92, Morgan Smith a 97, and Kairi Beckwith a 107.  The team travels to Clearbrook Golf Club on Wednesday to compete in the Holland Jamboree.  

The West varsity girls golf team placed 3rd out of 7 at the Zeeland East Invitational held at Pigeon Creek Golf Course today.  The team was led by Rylee Smith who posted an 88, good for 4th as an individual out of all players.  Mogan Smith added a 91, Anika Doan a 104, and Kairi Beckwith a 110.  The team travels to Yankee Springs Golf Course to compete in the Thornapple Kellogg Invitational tomorrow.  

The West varsity girls golf team got off to a good start and placed 3rd out of 6 teams at the Wayland Invitational held at Orchard Hills Golf Course today.  The Dux were led by Rylee Smith who posted a 83 and placed 3rd individually for the tournament.  Morgan Smith added a 95, Kairi Beckwith a 100, and Anika Doan a 104.  The team travels to Pigeon Creek tomorrow to compete in the Zeeland East Invitational 

ZEELAND WEST GIRLS GOLF 2020

                Team tryouts will take place on Wednesday August 12 at Kris Tees Driving Range on 96th.  Players should plan on bringing a mask and we will be following social distancing protocols.  We will work on the driving range and putting green at 8:00 a.m. and will end at 9:30 a.m.  After the first try-out round players will be invited back for a second try-out on  Thursday August 13 at Kris Tees at the same time and procedure as the previous day.  We will play 9 holes at Crestview Golf Course in Borculo on Friday the 14th at 7:30 a.m.  Team selection will be made (if necessary) and a team meeting will take place following the try-out on Wednesday so players should arrange your schedules accordingly.  We should be done around 10:00 a.m.

                Please plan to be early to the try-out sessions.  We will begin working at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, so your promptness is appreciated.  You will need to bring your clubs, balls, tees, and golf or tennis shoes.  All players can either carry their clubs or use a pull cart for try-out rounds and the season.  There is no cost to the players for trying out for the team. 

Between 15-25 players will be selected to be part of the 2020 Team, which includes Varsity and Junior Varsity.  The number selected depends on scoring dispersion and team needs.

                To be eligible to try-out you must be in the ninth through twelfth grade and have completed all of the steps to compete through FinalForms. 

The following list of criteria will be used as part of the 2020 team selection process:

• Attitude and conduct off the golf course
• Attitude and conduct on the golf course
• Playing by and knowledge of the USGA Rules of Golf
• Playing ability and showing improvement from past year, if applicable
• Using solid golf etiquette
• Have good practice habits and practice all parts of the game
• Be able to accept and respond to coaching
• Support your teammates by encouraging their play
• Take care of yourself physically and mentally by eating, sleeping and exercising correctly
• Being able to keep the game in perspective and remember it is a game.  

                The team schedule (matches and competitions only) may be found at zeelandwestathletics.com. There may be a couple changes to the schedule due to various conflicts but you can get a fairly accurate picture of the season from the website listed above.   A link to both the junior varsity and varsity schedules including practices will be provided to players and their families on the 14th.

There will be hitting sessions held at Kris Tees Driving Range coming up this week and running for the next three weeks.  These are totally voluntary and are free to attend to any interested golfers (girls or boys) entering West this fall.

Safety protocols will be followed before any athlete is able to participate.  These will be done the day of by a questionnaire and temperature check.  Social distancing requirements will be followed during the time at Kris Tees.
