West golfer Phloy Wongvilart placed T-11 out of 108 players at the MHSAA Division 2 State Finals held at MSU Forest Akers East Golf Course on Friday and Saturday. Phloy's total of 167 for the two days capped off an impressive high school golf career of her representing West with true class.

Any West girl who may be interested in playing golf this coming school year is invited to Kris Tees Driving Range on 96th for hitting sessions on the following days -
Tuesday July 9 - 11:00-12:00 p.m.
Thursday July 11 - 4:00-5:00 p.m.
Monday July 15 - 10:00-11:00 a.m.
Wednesday July 17 - 4:00-5:00 p.m.
Monday July 22 - 10:00-11:00 a.m.
Wednesday July 24 - 4:00-5:00 p.m.
Cost is free and open to any interested player entering West High School this fall. Any weather cancellations will be posted the day off the hitting sessions on this website. Please contact Coach Tim Minnear at tminnear@zps.org with any questions or concerns.

Phloy Wongvilart represented Zeeland West well at the MHSAA Division II Golf State Tournament held at Forest Akers West Golf Course at MSU. Phloy shot 105 on Friday and 93 on Saturday in very difficult conditions including a 2 hour delay for lightning and 45 minutes for a hail storm. Congratulations to Phloy for a having a great junior season!

The West varsity golf team placed 7th out of 12 at the Region 9 Division 2 Tournament today held at Coldwater Golf Course. The Dux were led by Phloy Wongvilart with an 88 who finished T-3 for the region. Phloy advanced to the Division II State Tournament held at Forest Akers West next weekend. Samantha LeFebre added a 108, Ella Highley a 110, and Madissen Crevier a 111.

The West varsity golf team placed 5th at the Wooden Shoe Invitational held at Wuskowhan Players Club. The Dux were led by Phloy Wongvilart with a 47. Samantha LeFebre added a 56, Makennah Blackman a 62, and Ella Highley a 67. The team travels to Coldwater on Thursday to compete in the Regional Tournament.

The West varsity girls golf team placed 4th at the OK Green Conference Championship on Saturday and finished the year in 4th place out of 8 teams for final conference standings. The Dux were led by Phloy Wongvilart who was co-medalist at the event held at West Ottawa Golf Club with an 82. Phloy also led the entire conference with her scoring average and was selected to the OK Green All Conference Team. Samantha LeFebre contributed a 96 and earned Honorable Mention for the conference. Madissen Crevier added a 117 while Makennah Blackman contributed a 119. The team travels to Wuskowhan Players Club on Monday to compete in the Wooden Shoe.

The West varsity girls golf team placed 6th at the Holland Christian Jamboree held at Winding Creek Golf Course today. The Dux were led by Phloy Wongvilart and Samantha LeFebre with a pair of 49's. Madissen Crevier added a 58 while Makeenah Blackman contributed a 63. The team travels to Wuskowhan Players Club on Monday to compete in the Wooden Shoe.

The West varsity golf team placed 4th out of 8 at the Calvin Christian Jamboree held at Ironwood Golf Course this afternoon. The Dux were led by Phloy Wongvilart with a 37 who also earned medalist honors. Samantha LeFebre added a 49, Makennah Blackman a 52, and Madissen Crevier a 53. The team travels to Winding Creek on Tuesday to compete in the Holland Christian Jamboree.

The West varsity girls golf placed 4th out of 8 as they hosted the conference for their home jamboree today at Crestview Golf Course. The Dux were led by Phloy Wongvilart who was co-medalist for all scorers with a 39. Samantha LeFebre and Ella Highley added a pair of 53's, while Madissen Crevier and Makeenah Blackman contributed a pair of 56's. The team travels to Ironwood Golf Course on Tuesday to compete in the Calvin Christian Jamboree.

Samanthe LeFebre added a 49, Madissen Crevier a 53, while Ella Highley and Makennah Blackman had a pair of 61's. The team hosts the conference at Crestview on Tuesday for their home jamboree.

Samantha LeFebre added 54, Makeenah Blackman contribured a 64, while Ella Highley and Madissen Crevier had a pair of 65's. The team travels to Clearbrook Golf Club on Tuesday to compete in the Holland Jamboree.

The West varsity golf team lost to Wayland in a non-conference dual match today held at Orchard Hills Golf Course. Phloy Wongvilart led all scores with a 39. Samantha LeFebre added a 52, Madissen Crevier a 59, and Ellie Highley a 65. The team travels to Maple Hill Golf Course on Tuesday to take on Wyoming in a non-conference dual match.

The West varsity girls golf team placed 5th out of 8 teams today at the first conference jamboree hosted by Byron Center and held at Stonewater Country Club. Phloy Wongvilart led the Dux with a 42. Ellie Highley added a 54, Samantha LeFebre a 62, while Makeenah Blackman had a 66. The team travels to Orchard Hills on Thursday to compete in a non-conference dual with Wayland.

The West varsity girls golf team defeated Allendale on Friday 214-217 in a non-conference dual held at Crestview Golf Club. The team was led by Phloy Wongvilart with a 45. Madissen Crevier and Samantha LeFebre added a pair of 53's while Makeenah Blackman contributed a 63. The team hosts West Ottawa on Tuesday for another non-conference match.

Team tryouts will take place on Wednesday August 8, 2018 at Kris Tees on 96th. We will work on the driving range and putting green at 8:00 a.m. and will end at 9:30 a.m. After the first try-out round players will be invited back for a second try-out on Thursday August 9 at Kris Tees at the same time and procedure as the previous day. We will play 9 holes at Crestview Golf Course in Borculo on Friday the 10th at 7:30 a.m. Team selection will be made (if necessary) and a team meeting will take place following the try-out on Friday, so players should arrange your schedules accordingly. We should be done around 10:00 a.m.
Please plan to be early to the try-out sessions. We will begin working at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, so your promptness is appreciated. You will need to bring your clubs, balls, tees, and golf or tennis shoes. All players will carry their clubs for try-out rounds and the season. Most golf courses have pull carts available. There is no cost to the players for trying out for the team.
Between 15-25 players will be selected to be part of the 2018 Team, which includes Varsity and Junior Varsity. The number selected depends on scoring dispersion and team needs.
To be eligible to try-out you must be in the ninth through twelfth grade and have completed all of the steps to compete through Final Forms.
The following list of criteria will be used as part of the 2018 team selection process:
- Attitude and conduct off the golf course
- Attitude and conduct on the golf course
- Playing by and knowledge of the USGA Rules of Golf
- Playing ability and showing improvement from past year, if applicable
- Using solid golf etiquette
- Have good practice habits and practice all parts of the game
- Be able to accept and respond to coaching
- Support your teammates by encouraging their play
- Take care of yourself physically and mentally by eating, sleeping and exercising correctly
- Being able to keep the game in perspective and remember it is a game.
The team schedule (matches and competitions only) may be found at zeelandwestsports.com There may be a couple changes to the schedule due to various conflicts but you can get a fairly accurate picture of the season from the website listed above. A practice and monthly breakdown of the season will be given to players on
August 10. Any possible summer hitting opportunities will also be posted on the website above.

The West girls varsity golf team placed 5th at the Zeeland East Invitational held at West Ottawa Golf Club today. Phloy Wongvilart led the team and was the overall medalist of the tournament with an 81. Samantha LeFebre contributed a 95, Madissen Crevier a 118, and Makeenah Blackman a 131. The team hosts Allendale tomorrow at Crestview for a non-conference dual.
