The West girls golf team begins the season on Monday the 12th and 13th at Kris Tees Driving Range from 8:00-9:30 a.m.  The team will play at Crestview on Wednesday the 14th from 7:30 - 10:00 a.m.  We have a junior varsity team for players who are new to the sport and a varsity team for those who are more experienced.  No experience is necessary to play, and we will provide clubs and a bag if any players need them.  There will not be any cuts this year or tryouts due to numbers.  Our goal is to provide a positive experience for all of our girls.

West Girls Golf - Fall 24' 

Team tryouts will occur on Monday, August 12, 2024, at Kris Tees Driving Range on 96th.  Players are reminded to take care of everything on FinalForms (green across the board) to tryout on August 12 except the small fee to participate.  This includes a yearly physical that needs to be completed each school year. 

We will work on the driving range and putting green at 8:00 a.m. and will end at 9:30 a.m.  After the first try-out players will be invited back for a second try-out on Tuesday, August 13 at Kris Tees at the same time and procedure as the previous day.  We will play 9 holes at Crestview Golf Course in Borculo on Wednesday the 14th at 7:30 a.m.  Team selection will be made (if necessary) and a team meeting will take place following the try-out on Wednesday so players should arrange their schedules accordingly.  We should be done around 10:00 a.m.

Please plan to be early for the try-out sessions.  We will begin working at 8:00 a.m. on Monday the 12th, so your promptness is appreciated.  You will need to bring your clubs, balls, tees, and golf or tennis shoes.  All players can either carry their clubs or use a pull cart for try-out rounds and the season.  There is no cost to the players for trying out for the team. 

Between 15 and 25 players will be selected to be part of the 2024 Team, which includes Varsity and Junior Varsity. The number selected depends on scoring dispersion and team needs. We have never cut in the program's history and welcome any and all skill levels, even those who have never played golf.  

Remember, to be eligible to try-out you must be in the ninth through twelfth grade and have completed all of the steps to compete through FinalForms. 

The following list of criteria will be used as part of the 2024 team selection process:

• Attitude and conduct off the golf course

• Attitude and conduct on the golf course

• Playing by and knowledge of the USGA Rules of Golf

• Playing ability and showing improvement from past year, if applicable

• Using solid golf etiquette

• Have good practice habits and practice all parts of the game

• Be able to accept and respond to coaching

• Support your teammates by encouraging their play

• Take care of yourself physically and mentally by eating, sleeping and exercising correctly

• Being able to keep the game in perspective and remember it is a game.  

The team schedule (matches and competitions only) may be found at zeelandwestathletics.com.  Additional events will be added as we closer to the season but you can get a fairly accurate picture of the season in terms of conference matches from the website listed above.  We will most likely end up with approximately 15 events for varsity and 12 for junior varsity.   A link to both the junior varsity and varsity schedules including practices will be provided to players and their families August 14.

West Girls Golf Hitting Sessions - Kris Tees Driving Range

Coach Minnear and Komejan are hosting a few golf hitting sessions at Kris Tees in the next few weeks.  These are voluntary and are free to attend to any interested girl golfers entering West this fall.  Any cancellations due to weather will be posted on this site.  Please reach out to Coach Minnear at tminnear@zps.org with any questions.
