Boys and Girls Varsity Bowling-co-op vs. Coopersville High School

The bowling team was in action against Coopersville last evening. The boys team made a huge come from behind win in the final individual game where Nick Woodman rolled a 245, the team went on to win 17-13.
The girls bowling team kept their streak alive by defeating Coopersville by a score of 27-3. The entire team etched a new high series in the record books throwing a series of 1074. Along the way Megan Gemmill rolled a 246 and a 214, Ellie Drenten rolled a 233, Alyssa Fortney 202, and Hayden Pompey-Oshinski rolled a 201.

The senior stars of Zeeland bowling were out and shining bright last evening during Senior Recognition day. Senior boys Nick Hilbink, Nick Woodman, and Zach Weeden led their team to victory after mounting a huge comeback from a 10-0 deficit after the baker games. Nick Woodman rolled an impressive 434 series!
The girls team was led by seniors Megan Gemmill, Morgan Smith and Ellie Drenten as they blanked Fruitport 30-0. Morgan Smith and Ellie Drenten shot the lights out rolling a two game series of 460 and 468 respectively. Awesome job ladies!

The Zeeland boys team beat Muskegon by a score of 26.5 to 3.5. Rolling big games for the boys were Nick Woodman 213 and Alex Vogt with a 223.
The girls team beat Muskegon by a score of 30-0. Brianna Fortney was on fire for the ladies rolling a 226 and a 215. Rylee Smith chipped in with a 204 as well.

Team Zeeland was in action again against the Falcons of Allendale. The boys game ended in a tie 15-15. High games for the boys were Nick Woodman and Alex Vogt.
The Girls team blanked the lady falcons 30-0. High scores came from Ellie Drenten (202), Alyssa Fortney (205), and Morgan Smith (236). Freshman Hayden Pompey-Oshinski also chipped in with a 196!

Zeeland Boys bowling team steam rolled over conference rivals Mona Shores by a score of 29-1. The boys swept the two baker games and dominated match play with freshman Noah Vandervelde throwing a 201, senior Nick Woodman throwing a 211, and junior Alex Vogt throwing a 233 and leading the way. In his first ever varsity bowling competition sophomore Trevor Blackburn rolled a 194 way to go Trevor.
On the ladies lanes Team Zeeland shut out Mona 30-0. More big games thrown by seniors Ellie Drenten with a 213 and Morgan Smith with a 252, adding to the fire was junior Alyssa Fortney with a pair of 225's. Last night the girls team set this year's state record for the highest baker game with a baker score of 258!

It was another fabulous day for Team Zeeland on the bowling lanes. The boys team defeated West Catholic by a score of 28 - 2. High games were rolled by freshman Noah VanderVelde with a 198 and junior Alex Vogt with a 199. But the true gems of the day came on the girls lanes where 4 out of the 5 bowlers rolled over 200. Check these scores out: Shanna McDonnell 206, Brianna Fortney 214, Alyssa Fortney 207 & 256, and finally on the day before her 18th birthday Morgan Smith threw a 253 and a 259! In the end, the girls beat West Catholic 30-0. Way to go ladies.

The boys Bowling team entered conference play on a high note defeating Reeths Puffer by a score of 18-12. The boys swept the 2 baker games with a pin fall of 369 to 307. Leading the way in match play was Brett Klein with a score of 202 and Noah VanderVelde with a score of 233.
The girls bowling team exploded into conference play by dominating the competition and winning by a score of 29.5 to 1/2. Listen to this list of scores from our girls: Shanna McDonnell 201, Rylee Smith 202, Ellie Drenten 209, Alyssa Fortney 228, Morgan Smith 232, and Brianna Fortney with a 247. Now that is some bowling!! Way to go girls.

The boys bowling team rallied in match play to come back from a 10-0 deficit and defeat Unity Christian by a score of 16.5 to 13.5. Stepping up for team Zeeland were freshman Noah VanderVelde with a 204 and AJ Williams with a 178, Junior Alex Vogt added a 218 and Jackson Schamper a 171.
The Zeeland girls bowling team steam rolled the ladies of Unity Christian by a score of 27- 3. Leading the way for the ladies were seniors Ellie Drenten and Morgan Smith each with a 225 in the first game. In the second game Morgan opened with 7 consecutive strikes and rolled a 245. Chipping in other great scores were Rylee Smith with a 189 and Shanna McDonnell with a 182.

The Zeeland Bowling team was in action this past Saturday as they faced off against West Michigan rivals in the Fruitport invitational tournament. The boys were led by Alex Vogt, Nick Woodman, and Brett Klein. In the end their efforts placed them in the top half of the field of competition.
The girls team being led by seniors Megan Gemmill, Ellie Drenten, and Morgan Smith placed first in the qualifying round beating the second place team by over 500 pins. Heading into match play team Zeeland defeated Comstock Park and Rockford to snatch first place honors. Three girls were named to the all tournament team Ellie Drenten, Alyssa Fortney and Morgan Smith.

The boys bowling team defeated Forest Hills Eastern by a score of 20-10. The boys swept the 2 baker games, giving them a 10 point lead, however it was Alex Vogts monster score of 242 that solidified the boys victory in the second game of individuals.
The girls bowling team dominated play sweeping both bakers and all individuals, winning by a score of 30-0. All girls bowled incredibly well with high games coming from Brianna Fortney 203, Morgan Smith 202, Alyssa Fortney 201 and Rylee Smith 194. How's that for sister power!

The boys bowling team beat their opponents from South Christian by a score of 27-3. Throwing big games for Zeeland were Alex Vogt with a 204 and Nick Woodman with a 193.
Zeeland girls also went on to beat the ladies from South Christian by a score of 30-0. Alyssa Fortney rolled a 217 and Morgan Smith rolled a 214 and a 196.

Zeeland Girls Varsity defeated Jenison in their opening match of the 2021-2022 season! High games were rolled by Brianna Fortney with a 204 and 198 and Shanna McDonnell with a 193.
Zeeland Boys varsity lost to Jenison in their opening match despite coming out of the Baker games with a slight lead. High games for the boys were thrown by Noah VanderVelde with a 191 and Alex Vogt with a 203.
