Boys and Girls Varsity Bowling-Co-op vs. Multiple Opponents

Zeeland's girls bowlers might have been short handed losing one of their stars in Brianna Fortney, but they showed they are still a very strong team.  The ladies came out on fire and shot a great 941 in their first single's game of 4 in the Division 1 Regional.  They didn't slow down with an excellent 963 second game, followed up with a 932.  They cooled off the third game shooting a respectable 830 and had a total of 3666 for the day.  The girls took first place by 300 pins over second place neighbor Hudsonville.  Both teams will head to the  State Finals at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park on Friday, March 26th.   The girls had all 5 bowlers in the top 16.  The top 10 make it to the singles State competition.  Sisters, Morgan and Rylee Smith punched their ticket to the singles portion by finishing in the top ten.  High games were rolled by Ellie Drenten 212,205, Rylee Smith 206,201 Alyssa Fortney 204,199, Shanna McDonnell 204 and Morgan Smith 201. The Zeeland boys bowling team finished off their season this week by placing 6th out of 18 teams in their region. Grant Bush went on to qualify for the State individual competition next week in Detroit by rolling a 4 game series of 843, that's an average of 211 per game! Way to go Grant. Other high games were rolled by Nate Bruursema with a 241, Isaiah Reyes with a pair of 200's and Connor Lundeen with a 191. Great season men! Congratulations teams on a wonderful season!

Zeeland lost their bowling match on Monday night to Hudsonville by a score of 28 - 2. In their last match up of the season Isaiah Reyes rolled a 201, Grant Bush rolled a 200 and Nate Bruursema rolled a 246. As a team the boys bowled a combined 952 but still came up 17 pins short of defeating the Eagles in the first game. In the second match up of the night Nate Bruursema and Grant Bush once again led the way by rolling a 191 and 214 respectively. Great season gentelmen!

Win: 29 - 1
The Zeeland mens bowling team was hotter than your mom's homemade chilli last night, defeating Allendale by a score of 29-1. Screaming out of the gate the men rolled a 248 Baker game and never looked back. Grant Bush ended both Baker games by striking out in the tenth and giving the team a 6-0 lead heading into individual play. In their first game the team rolled a whopping 1120 total pin fall with Isaiah Reyes scoring 192, Connor Lundeen 239, Zach Weeden 218, Nate Bruursema 225, and Grant Bush scoring a 246. In their second game Zeeland continuted pounding the pocket racking up more pin totals and high scores game from Nate Bruursema (213) and Grant Bush (223) once again. The Zeeland lady bowlers had the opportunity to all bowl as Allendale only had two female bowlers.  Based on this we had already secured the match 30-0 so we thought we would have some fun and combine the teams to make two fun teams and comptete.  Compete they did.  The full Zeeland team shot single games of 971 and 848.   The combined team shot 835 and 711.  High games were rolled by Shanna McDonnell 241, Morgan Smith 226, Brianna Fortney 226, Ellie Drenten 199 and Alyssa Fortney 195.  The team heads to Post conference tournament in Muskegon on Saturday hoping to win back to back conference championships.

Win: 26 - 3
The men's bowling team rolled over the team from West Catholic by a score of 26.5 to 3.5. Yes, you read that correctly you can score 1/2 a point in bowling...that's why it is so great!  A solid performance by all bowlers was the highlight of the night but top scores came from Isaiah Reyes with a score of a 180 and a 197, followed by Nick Woodman with a 196 and Zach Weeden with a 185. Zeeland's men team won both Baker games and 6 out of the ten individual games. Well done fellas!

Win: 27 - 3
Zeeland men's bowling team defeated Muskegon on Wednesday evening by a score of 27-3. Zeeland pounced on the Big Red right out of the gate taking both Baker games with scores of 191 and 171 and winning total pin count. Heading into individual play Nick Woodman lead the way in the first game rolling a 199 followed by Nate Bruursema with a 182. In the second head to head match Zeeland was lead by Isaiah Reyes throwing a 200 game and Grant Bush with a 183.

Win: 24 - 6
The men's bowling team rocked the competition Tuesday at Hudsonville Lanes. Connor Lundeen and Isaiah Reyes rocked the opening Baker games with several strikes giving the team a 6-4 lead heading into individual play. Four out of the five bowlers won their head to head competition with Nick Woodman having a stellar night bowling a 219 and 223. Nate Bruursema also had a two - 200 day scoring a 238 and a 211. Grant Bush contributed to the fire, rolling a 238 as well. Following closely behind was Isaiah Reyes with a 187 and a 190. Rounding out the scoring for the squad was Zach Weeden with a 180. Great job gentlemen!

Zeeland's Nick Woodman struck out in the 10th frame of the Zeeland Baker game and Connor Lundeen struck in all 4 of his frames of the opening Baker games to give Zeeland an impressive 157 and 221 game and the 6-4 lead heading into individual play.  The men's team went a little cold in the first game only racking up a total of 864 pins. The spark started to return in the second game when Grant Bush rolled a 193 and Nate Bruursema rolled a 226 racking up a total pin count of 902. In the end, it wasn't quite enough to take down the men of Mona Shores. Zeeland lost 14 to 16 at the end of the day.

Lose: 7 - 23
The men's bowling team hit a slick spot on the lanes today and ended up in the gutter. The team feel to conference rivals Reeths Puffer by a score of 23-7. The Rockets of Reeths Puffer took 6 out of the ten Baker points then rolled into individual games edging out the majority of Zeeland bowlers. Zeeland struggled to find their groove at the always tough Northway Lanes. Bright spots for the team were Connor Lundeen registering a score of 186 and Nate Bruursema throwing a 181.
