Zeeland's girls bowlers might have been short handed losing one of their stars in Brianna Fortney, but they showed they are still a very strong team. The ladies came out on fire and shot a great 941 in their first single's game of 4 in the Division 1 Regional. They didn't slow down with an excellent 963 second game, followed up with a 932. They cooled off the third game shooting a respectable 830 and had a total of 3666 for the day. The girls took first place by 300 pins over second place neighbor Hudsonville. Both teams will head to the State Finals at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park on Friday, March 26th.
The girls had all 5 bowlers in the top 16. The top 10 make it to the singles State competition. Sisters, Morgan and Rylee Smith punched their ticket to the singles portion by finishing in the top ten. High games were rolled by Ellie Drenten 212,205, Rylee Smith 206,201 Alyssa Fortney 204,199, Shanna McDonnell 204 and Morgan Smith 201.
The Zeeland boys bowling team finished off their season this week by placing 6th out of 18 teams in their region. Grant Bush went on to qualify for the State individual competition next week in Detroit by rolling a 4 game series of 843, that's an average of 211 per game! Way to go Grant.
