Girls Varsity Water Polo Co-op vs. Multiple Opponents

Hudsonville, MICH - The Zeeland Women's Water Polo team defeated rival West Ottawa 9-3 on Friday night in the quarterfinals of the District Tournament. The win automatically qualifies the team for the Regional Tournament next weekend. West Ottawa scored the first goal of the game before Zeeland tied it at 1-1 to end the first period scoring. Zeeland led 2-1, 3-2, and finally took the lead at 4-3 going into the half and scored the final 6 goals of the game (5 in the second half). Morgan Beers was once again stellar in goal with 15 saves.
Zeeland had 7 different goal scorers. Katie Agar and Rylee Fowler each scored 2 and Chelsea Engelsman, Peyton Elenbaas, Kayleigh Brown, Jobvie Poest, and Kelsy Toth each added one. Kelsy Toth led the team with 4 steals and Peyton Elenbaas drew 3 exclusions.
"We started out a little tight tonight. Our depth really showed in this game and helped us survive the first half. We came out really strong in the second half with a lot of energy. Zeeland, MICH - The Zeeland Women's Water Polo Team fell to Hudsonville on Tuesday night 11-4. The game was much closer than the final indicated. Zeeland trailed 5-3 after 3 and kept the score close until the final 1:45 at 8-4 before Hudsonville scored 3 to end the game.
Peyton Elenbaas led the team with 2 goals and Kelsy Toth and Katie Agar eached chipped in 1. Morgan Beers made 11 saves in goal.
The team next plays against West Ottawa at home on Thursday at 6:00 followed by hosting a tournament over the weekend.

Zeeland, MICH - The Rockford Women's Water Polo Team traveled to Zeeland on Tuesday night and defeated the host 6-4. The Rams jumped out to a 4-0 half time lead before Zeeland battled back and pulled within 1 at the end of the 3rd at 4-3. Rockford scored the next goal before Zeeland again netted another with 2:27 at 5-4. The Rams finished the game with a goal while Zeeland was pressing the offensive end to round out the scoring.
Chelsea Engelsman scored twice, both on backhand shots, while Rylee Fowler and Peytton Elenbaas each added one. In goal, Morgan Beers made 8 saves.
Next up, Zeeland play on Tuesday at home against Hudsonville.

Ada, MICH – The Zeeland Women’s Water Polo team defeated Forest Hills on the road on Tuesday night 11-5 to improve to 9-3 on the season (3-0 OK Conference). Zeeland never trailed in the game and Forest Hills last tie was at 1-1. Forest Hills kept the game close through the first half trailing only 5-3 before Zeeland went on a run and scored 4 unanswered goals in the third quarter. The teams traded goals the rest of the way in the fourth.
Peyton Elenbaas led all scorers with 5 goals. Also scoring for the team were: Kelsy Toth (3), Chelsea Engelsman (2), Kayleigh Brown (1), and Kayla Trevino (1). Morgan Beers made 13 saves in goal while also adding 2 assists. Katie Agar once again led the team with 3 steals.
Next up, Zeeland travels to Jenison for the 2 in 1 tournament. They play Hudsonville and Rockford on Friday and Forest Hills and a team TBD on Saturday.

Girls Varsity Water Polo Co-op vs. East Kentwood High School

Zeeland, MICH - The Zeeland Women's Water Polo team hosted East Kentwood on Tuesday night and defeated the Falcons 4-3 in a defensive battle. East Kentwood started off the game on a goal from Sammie Sutherlin 1:45 into the game with the only tally of the first quarter. Zeeland tied it up on a goal from Kelsy Toth 2:00 into the 2nd, before Emma Smith scored to put the Falcons up 2-1 to round out the scoring in the first half.
Zeeland started the 3rd quarter off strong with a goal from Chelsea Engelsman 1:00 in. Kelsy Toth followed with her second goal of the game a minute later to give Zeeland their first lead of the game at 3-2. Kayla Trevino scored the eventual game winner with 5:16 left in regulation. East Kentwood added their final goal off a power play advantage with 4:04 left in the game before Zeeland shut the door.
The win raises Zeeland's record to 8-3 (2-0 OK Rainbow)
Goalie Morgan Beers was once again stellar in goal with 6 saves and 2 assists. Katie Agar led the team with 4 steals and had a lot of defensive stops off of fast breaks.
Next up, the team travels to Forest Hills on Thursday before traveling to Jenison for the weekend tournament

Girls Varsity Water Polo Co-op vs. Grand Ledge High School

Zeeland, Mich - In a matchup of 2 top 10 State ranked water polo teams, Zeeland (#8) fell to Grand Ledge (#4) on Tuesday evening in Overtime 9-8. Grand Ledge (2-0) led for most of the game and was up 6-4 with 1:45 remaining before Kelsy Toth scored 2 quick goals in the span of 45 seconds on assists from goalie Morgan Beers to send the game into overtime. In overtime, Zeeland (7-3) led 7-6 on a goal from Toth and again 8-7 on a goal from Kayla Trevino, but each time, Grand Ledge found an answer and eventually scored the game winner.
Toth led all goal scorers with 5 goals and Trevino added 2. Jovie Poest rounded out the scoring. Katie Agar led the team with 5 steals and Beers made 16 saves in goals.
"We started out a little slow again. As a coaching staff, we need to figure out how to get the team moving earlier in the game. Kayla Trevino really sparked us in the 3rd quarter with the intensity and drive that she brought and Rylee Fowler was a driving force in our motion sets. If we can clean up our passing and spacing on offense, this team can play with any team in the State." Coach Vruggink

Grand Haven, Mich - The Zeeland Women's Varsity Water Polo team traveled to Grand Haven this weekend and went 3-1 in the Shootout at the Shore, raising their season record to 7-2. The team started out on Friday night with a loss to Jenison (6-5) before bouncing back with victories over Forest Hills (11-6), West Ottawa (5-2), and Grandville (7-3).
Morgan Beers was once again stellar in goal with 48 saves in goal. Peyton Elenbaas led the team with 7 goals while Rylee Fowler was second with 6. Morgan Beers also helped on offense by adding 6 assists. Kelsy Toth wasn't far behind with 5. Elenbaas and Fowler also led the team defensively with 8 and 7 steals respectively.
Next up, the team will host Grand Ledge on Tuesday for their last contest before Spring Break

EAST GRAND RAPIDS – The Zeeland Women’s Water Polo team traveled back to EGR, after spending all weekend there, and defeated the host Pioneers 11-3. EGR kept it close for the first half with Zeeland leading 4-2. Zeeland started quickly in the 3rd period, scoring 5 unanswered to put the game out of reach heading into the 4th. The win raised Zeeland’s record to 4-1.
Nine different Zeeland players scored in the win. Peyton Elenbaas was the only multi-goal scorer with 2. Also scoring for Zeeland were: Katie Agar, Annika DeYoung, Kayleigh Brown, Jovie Poest, Claire Meeuwsen, Rylee Fowler, Kelsy Toth, and Kayla Trevino. Morgan Beers made 7 saves in goal. Katie Agar led the team with 6 steals and Kelsy Toth drew 2 exclusions.
Next up, the team travels to Grand Haven on Friday and Saturday to play in the Shootout at the Shore. They play Jenison at 5:10PM and Forest Hills at 7:10PM on Friday. Saturday's games are TBD based on Friday's results.

EAST GRAND RAPIDS - The Zeeland Women's Water Polo team traveled to EGR HS to play in the Early Bird Tournament over this past weekend. Even though they only had 4 practices under their weight belts, the team still went 3-1. Friday night was a little rough with a 7-1 loss to Defending State Champ Hudsonville. The team bounced back on Saturday morning with victories over Forest Hills Combined (11-3), Birmingham Seaholm (8-0), and West Ottawa (10-4).
Morgan Beers (SR) was stellar in goal with 31 saves and only allowing 5 goals on the weekend. She also added in 5 assists to help spark the offense. Zeeland also managed to have 8 different goal scorers led by Peyton Elenbaas and Kelsy Toth with 8 a piece. Peyton was the only player to score in every game. Rylee Fowler led the team with 3 drawn elxcusions. On the defensive end, Kayla Trevino led the team with 10 steals and 4 field blocks.
The team next plays on Tuesday at EGR for their Conference Dual Game. Varsity will be playing first at 6pm with the JV game to follow.
