Dux Varsity Softball Fall in District Semi Final to Hudsonville 8-3

Zeeland West Varsity Dux watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in an 8-3 loss to Hudsonville Varsity Eagles on Saturday in District Semi Final.
Hudsonville Varsity Eagles opened up scoring in the first inning. Avery Hobson drove in one when Hobson doubled.
Zeeland West Dux Varsity notched three runs in the seventh inning. Morgan Patrick, Taylor Zwagerman, and Alexa Brott all contributed with RBIs.
Brott took the loss for the Dux. Brott allowed four hits and three runs over three innings, striking out two and walking one. Emily Brands took the mound in fourth inning. She threw three innings allowing eight hits and five runs, striking out one and walking none. "Alexa and Emily threw well." said Coach Sliva. "Hudsonville bats were very good today and we didn't support the circle well enough by commiting some key errors. We are proud of the girls for competing hard to get to this point in a very difficult District."
Dux totaled eight hits in the game. Carly Sleeman, Brott, and Zwagerman all had multiple hits for Zeeland. Brott and Sleeman all had three hits to lead Zeeland West Dux Varsity.
Dux finish the season with a record of 24-12. First place in OK Green Conference for the second year in a row!

Dux Varsity Softball wins PreDistrict Game against Kenowa Hills and Advances

Alexa Brott threw a perfect game on Tuesday to lead Zeeland West Dux Varsity Softball past Kenowa Hills Varsity Knights 19-0.
The Dux Offense was led by Carly Sleeman who went 4-for-4 at the plate. Sleeman led of the game with a homerun, singled in the second, singled in the second, and homered in the third!
"To have Carly hit a homerun as the lead offf was a great way to get the team started and Alexa was great on the mound" said Coach Sliva "The team came to play tonight. We wanted to show up, play our game, be there for each other, and win. We did that today and we look forward to continuing post season on Saturday!"
Zeeland West Dux Varsity put up five runs in the first inning, added seven runs in the second and third innings.
Brott got the win for the Dux. She allowed zero hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out eight and walking zero.
Dux Offense collected 11 hits on the day. Sleeman, Morgan Patrick (Double and single), and Maddie Wyckoff (Two singles) each managed multiple hits. Emily Kragt, Izzy Zamora and Brott added singles in the victory.
Dux improve overall record to 24-11. They advance to the District Tournament this weekend hosted by Grandville. They play Hudsonville at 10am.

Dux Varsity Softball fall to Rockford Rams 4-0

Dux Varsity Softball watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 4-0 loss to Rockford Rams on Thursday.
Emily Brands took the loss for Dux. She allowed four runs on six hits over five innings, striking out three and walking two. "I am really proud of Emily on the mound tonight." said Coach Sliva. "She had good velocity and movement on her ball which kept us in the game."
Rockford pitcher held the Dux offense hitless in the five inning game.
Dux fall to 22-11 on the season.

Dux Varsity Softball beat Rockford Rams 2-0 in Second Game of Double Header

Zeeland West Dux defeated Rockford Rams 2-0 on Thursday in the second game of the double header.
Alexa Brott earned the win for the Dux. She allowed zero runs on three hits over five innings, striking out 11 and walking zero. "Alexa, just like Emily, was one tonight" said Coach Sliva. "We are excited how our team is playing going into the post season. We are playing each out, and playing for each other and having fun. Rockford is a very solid team and these were two good games."
Leading off in the top of the second inning Maddie Wyckoff singled with two strikes. Then after getting to two outs, Morgan Patrick singled to score Wyckoff. Then Carly Sleeman doubled to score Patrick to put the Dux up by two.
Sleeman went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Dux. Alexa Brott also contributed a double in the victory.
Dux improve to 23-11 on the season. They now head to post season and take on Kenowa Hills in the pre district game on Tuesday May 31 at 3:30 at Kenowa Hills.

The Dux were on their way to claim a sweep on the Spring Lake Lakers when the weather didn't hold up for them. The sky opened up in the bottom of the fourth with the Dux up 15-0 with one out.
The Dux offense jumped up right away scoring seven runs in the top of the first inning with two outs. The rally started with Izzy Zamora hitting a double, followed by Taylor Zwagerman hitting a double, followed by Alex Brott hitting a double! Then a string of singles by Makena Moungkhoun and Morgan Patrick. Then Carly Sleeman hit a triple scoring two more to go up 7-0. "It was great to see this team continue to fight with two outs." said Coach Sliva "They don't give up and find another gear when we are two down to spark the offense"
Alexa Brott was on the mound battling the elements. She threw 3 1/3 innings before the game was suspended. She allowed zero runs on two hits, striking out 5 and walking one. "It was tough for both pitchers in the second game. The rain was constant and making it difficult to grip the ball. She kept her composure and threw well. It was unfortunate we couldn't complete it for her and the offense"
Dux offense collected 18 hits before the game was suspended. Taylor Zwagerman led the way going 4 for 4 with two doubles. Morgan Patrick was 3 for 3 driving in 3 RBIs with a double. Carly Sleeman was 3 for 4 and drove in 3 RBIs with two triples and a double. Izzy Zamora, Brott, and Makena Moungkhoun had two hits each. Emily Kragt and Maddie Wyckoff added hits for the victory.
This game didn't count as a win as it was suspended, so the Dux record remains at 21-10. They take on Rockford Rams tomorrow at 4:15 for a double header at home. They will be celebrating their seniors Emily Brands, Taylor Zwagerman, Avery Vugteveen, and Lauren Spahr!

Dux Varsity Softball beat Spring Lake 11-1

Dux Varsity Softball came to play Wednesday night. They scored in five of the six innings played to win 11-1 in six innings.
Maddie Wyckoff was the winning pitcher for the Dux. She threw six innings allowing one run on three hits, striking out five. "Maddie was great on the mound tonight." said Coach Sliva. "She was hitting her spots and had a lot of confidence in the circle. We were proud of her outing and the team backed her up with great defense and big bats."
Alexa Brott was big at the plate. She was a single away from hitting the cycle. She drove in four runs with a double, triple, and a home run. "Alexa was strong at the plate" said Coach Sliva "She has been working through some challenges at the plate and it was great to see the hard work pay off"
Zeeland West Dux Varsity tallied 15 hits in the game. Emily Kragt, Brott, Carly Sleeman, and Morgan Patrick all collected multiple hits for the Dux. Sleeman, Brott, and Kragt all had three hits to lead Zeeland West Dux Varsity. Izzy Zamora, Taylor Zwagerman, Wyckoff, and Makena Moungkhoun all added hits.
Dux improve to 21-10 on the season.

Dux Varsity Softball beats Holland in Conference Opener to Take Another Step towards Conference Championship

Dux Varsity Softball grabbed an early lead on its way to a 12-2 victory over Holland Dutch Varsity on Monday.
The Dux tallied six runs in the second inning. Emily Kragt, Izzy Zamora, and Taylor Zwagerman all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.
Emily Brands got the win in the circle for the Dux. She threw five innings, allowing five hits and two runs while striking out five and walking two. "Emily was good on the mound for us" said coach Sliva. "She did what she needed to for them to put the ball in play."
Carly Sleeman and Zwagerman each collected one hit for the Dux and they were big. Sleeman had a 3 RBI Double and Zwagerman had a three RBI triple.
Dux improved to 11-2 in Conference and 19-10 Overall.

Conference Champs! Dux Varsity Softball Wins OK Green Conference!

Dux Varsity Softball swept Holland Dutch and clinched the OK Green Conference Championship! They finished Conference play with a record of 12-2!
It was a total team effort in the final game against the Holland Dutch. The Dux put up 18 runs in three innings to win 18-0!
Alexa Brott collected the win for the Dux. She threw a no-hitter, striking out seven, and walking one. "Alexa was strong in the circle." said coach Sliva. "She was efficient with her pitches and Carly was able to throw out the one base runner trying to steal third."
Morgan Patrick led the Dux offense by driving in four runs with a Grand Slam in the top of the third inning. Izzy Zamora and Taylor Zwagerman each had Multiple hits. Zwagerman had a triple and a single, while Zamora had a double and a single. Carly Sleeman had a triple, and Emily Kragt and Maddie Wyckoff added singles.
"We are so proud of this team! They work hard and play for one another every night. It was great to see them rally and come out on top tonight with two wins. They really wanted the championship... and they took it. They earned it!"
The Dux win the OK Green Championship with a record of 12-2. They improve to 20-10 overall and play Spring Lake on Wednesday at home starting at 4:15p.

Dux Varsity Softball shuts out Union in Conference Play

Emily Kragt threw a gem on Thursday for The Dux, allowing zero runs and besting Union HS by a score of 18-0
Kragt led the Dux to victory by driving in four runs. Kragt went 3-for-3 at the plate. Kragt drove in runs on a double in the first, a single in the first, and a single in the third.
Kragt took the win on the mound. She threw three innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out eight and walking zero.
Dux Offense totaled 13 hits. Kragt, Maddie Wyckoff, Carly Sleeman, and Emily Brands each racked up multiple hits for The Dux. Wyckoff and Kragt all had three hits to lead the team. Taylor Zwagerman, Alexa Brott, and Lauren Spahr added hits for the victory.
Dux improved to 9-2 in OK Green Conference and 16-8 overall.

Dux Varsity Softball Sweeps Union and Closes in on Conference Championship

Maddie Wyckoff didn't allow a single run as the Dux Varsity Softball team defeated Union HS 15-0 on Thursday. Wyckoff allowed just two hits.
Carly Sleeman led Zeeland West Dux Varsity to victory by driving in four runs. Sleeman went 3-for-3 at the plate. Sleeman drove in runs on a home run in the first, a triple in the first, and a single in the second. A double shy of hitting the cycle.
Wyckoff earned the win for the Dux. Wyckoff allowed two hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out seven and walking zero.
Sleeman and Alexa Brott both managed multiple hits. Sleeman led with three hits in three at bats. Emily Kragt added a double and Izzy Zamora added a single in the victory.
Dux remain on top of the OK Green Conference with a record of 10-2 with two games remaining at home on Monday 5/23 starting at 4:15pm. Overall record improves to 17-8.

Dux Varsity Softball beat East in the Conference Opener 7-4

Dux Varsity Softball took the lead late in the game in a 7-4 victory over Zeeland East Varsity on Tuesday. The game was tied at four with Zeeland West Dux Varsity batting in the top of the sixth when Emily Kragt singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run.
The Dux Varsity got things started in the second inning when Morgan Patrick singled scoring two runs.
Zeeland East Varsity knotted the game up at four in the bottom of the fifth inning, when Reese Gruppen singled scoring two runs.
Alexa Brott earned the win for the Dux. She came in for the final three innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits, striking out seven and walking zero.
Emily Brands started the game for the Dux. She surrendered four runs on five hits over four innings, striking out five and walking one. "Emily did a great job in the circle with the start. Our defense didn't support her and we made a change to change it up a bit." Said coach Sliva. "Alexa came in and had Emily's back and shut the door for the victory. I really like how the two of them support each other out there."
Zeeland West Dux Varsity racked up ten hits in the game. Taylor Zwagerman, Kragt, Carly Sleeman, and Brands all collected multiple hits for the Dux. Zwagerman went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the offense. Makena Moungkhoun and Morgan Patrick each contributed hits in the victory.
Dux improved to 7-2 in OK Green Conference play and 14-8 overall.

Dux Varsity Sweep Zeeland East and Take Lead in OK Green Conference

Dux Varsity Softball completed the sweep of rival Zeeland East in OK Green Conference play tonight winning 5-1. The Dux take sole possession of the Conference lead as they were tied with Zeeland East going into the night each at 6-2.
The Dux got things moving in the first inning, when Emily Kragt singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run as Carly Sleeman started the game with a double.
Emily Brands earned the victory on the mound for the Dux. She threw four innings, allowing two hits and one run. Alexa Brott threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen allowing no runs or hits, striking out eight and zero walks. "The combination of Brands and Brott was good in game one and even better in game two!" said Coach Sliva. "Emily threw a strong four innings allowing only one run. We stuck to the game plan and she handed the ball over for Alexa to come in and shut them down. So proud of the duo in the circle tonight as the only allowed two hits."
Kragt and Sleeman went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Dux in hits. Morgan Patrick and Sleeman were good on the base paths with two stolen bases each.Taylor Zwagerman added a triple, and Brott and Patrick each added singles for the Dux victory. "We did what we needed when it mattered. We continue to score runs on two out and have big hits when runners are in scoring position. That is what you need to do to win games.
Dux record improves to 8-2 in OK Green Conference (1st Place) and 15-8 overall. They travel to Byron Center on Wednesday for a non Conference Double header starting at 4:15.

Dux Varsity Softball beat by Jenison 2-13 in opener

Dux knotted the game up at two in the bottom of the first inning, but Jension took over from there scoring four in the second and cruised to a 13-2 victory in six innings.
Maddie Wyckoff took the loss for the Dux. She allowed 17 hits and 13 runs over six innings, striking out three and walking one. "Maddie threw well" said coach Sliva. "I know the score doesn't show it, but it was a good outing for her. She worked hard and was up against a very good hitting team."
Emily Brands, Alexa Brott, and Emily Kragt all had one hit to lead Zeeland West Dux Varsity.

Girls Varsity West Softball vs. Jenison High School

Zeeland West Dux Varsity Softball lost the lead late in a 6-5 defeat to Jenison on Friday. That completed the sweep of the Dux as they won the opener as well.
Dux opened up scoring in the first inning, when Taylor Zwagerman singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.
Dux notched four more runs in the second inning. The bats in the inning were led by a groundout by Emily Kragt and a double by Carly Sleeman.
Emily Brands took the loss for the Dux. She surrendered six runs on eight hits over five innings, striking out two and walking one. "Emily pitched a solid game. She had control, but Jension is a very good hitting team" said coach Sliva. "Proud of the three pitchers we threw tonight. It was good for our team growth".
The Dux had six hits in the game. Zwagerman and Sleeman each collected multiple hits. Zwagerman went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Zeeland West Dux Varsity in hits.
Dux fall to 13-8 on the season. They play next at Zeeland East for OK Green Conference play on Tuesday.

Dux Varsity Softball fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 13-3 loss to Oakridge Varsity Eagles on Wednesday. .
Emily Kragt took the loss for Zeeland West Dux Varsity. The pitcher surrendered seven runs on eight hits over three innings, striking out two. Emily Brands came in for relief and went two and a third innings, allowing six runs on seven hits, sriking out 1 and walking zero.
Alexa Brott went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Dux Offense includng a triple. Carly Sleeman had a double, Taylor Zwagerman and Lauren Spahr contributed singles.
Dux defense was not strong. They committed five errors in the game.
Dux move record moves to 13-5

Dux Varsity Softball Falls Short on Comeback attempt in 10 innings to Oakridge

Dux Varsity Softball fought back after falling down by four runs in the sixth inning. The comeback fell just short though, in a 13-12 defeat to Oakridge Varsity Eagles on Wednesday in 10 innings. The Dux put up nine runs in the failed comeback. Maddie Wyckoff, Emily Kragt, Alexa Brott, Morgan Patrick, Kragt, and Taylor Zwagerman fueled the rally with RBIs.
Both teams exchanged the lead back-and-forth in the game, but the Eagles eventually took the lead for good thanks to a single in the tenth inning.
The Dux captured the lead in the second inning when Carly Sleeman singled, scoring one run. They were up 3-1 in the top of the fourth when the Eagles were able to rally and score three on a few errors and a questionable call down the third base line.
The Dux rallied for three runs in the seventh inning to take the game to extra innings. The offensive onslaught came from a fielder's choice by Brott and a double by Kragt.In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Dux tied things up at ten when Zwagerman drove in one run.
Emily Brands took the loss for Zeeland West Dux Varsity. The pitcher allowed nine hits and seven runs over six and a third innings, striking out one and walking one.
Brott started the game for Zeeland West Dux Varsity. She went three and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on three hits and striking out six
The Dux collected 12 hits on the day. Kragt, Sleeman, Zwagerman, and Brands all managed multiple hits. Sleeman and Kragt each managed three hits to lead the offense. Moungkhoun and Brott collected hits in the loss as well.
"That was an intense and exciting game." said coach Sliva. "Our girls gave it all they had and continued to fight until the very end. This is how we want to be playing at this point in the season. Our defense wasn't as strong as it can be and that let the Eagles back in the game. It was nice to see the girls come together and do what they needed to do to get the game into extra innings. Oakridge is a very good team, and it was a fun game."
Dux record moves to 13-6 overall. They have Jenison next on Friday night at home for a double header starting at 4:15p.

Dux Varsity Softball wins game one of Conference Double Headers against Wyoming

Both teams were strong in the pitcher's circle Monday, but Zeeland West Dux Varsity defeated Wyoming Varsity Wolves 3-1.
Wyoming Varsity Wolves opened up scoring in the first inning. Brands threw a wild pitch allowing one run across the plate for Wyoming Varsity Wolves.
Dux answered in the bottom of the first scoring two when Emily Kragt hit a two run home run after Carly Sleeman reached on a single.
Dux put an insurance run up in the fifth when Brands led off with a double. Makena Moungkhoun hit a bunt single down the first base line and Brands scored on a throwing error by the Wolves.
Brands earned the win for Zeeland West Dux Varsity. She allowed eight hits and one run over seven innings, striking out seven and walking one.
Carly Sleeman led Zeeland West Dux Varsity with two hits in three at bats. Kragt, Taylor Zwagerman, Brands, and Moungkhoun added hits in the game.
Dux were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error.
Dux improved to 6-1 in OK Green Conference and 13-3 overall.

Dux Varsity Softball fall in second game to Wyoming 4-3

It came down to the last play, but Zeeland West was on the wrong end of a 4-3 defeat to Wyoming Wolves on Monday in game 2. Wyoming trailed 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Marissa Menard singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.
Dux captured the lead in the second inning. They scored one run when Emily Brands singled.
Alexa Brott took the loss for the Dux. She allowed eight hits and four runs over six and two-thirds innings, striking out 14.
Maddie Wyckoff went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Dux offense including a triple. Emily Kragt, Brands, and Makena Moungkhoun each had hits in the loss.
Dux fall to 6-2 in conference and 13-4 overall. They go to Oakridge on Wednesday for a non conference double header.

The Dux bats were on Saturday morning as they put up nine runs in the first inning and never looked back. They finished the game in three innings beating Cedar Springs 19-1.
Emily Brands collected the win on the mound for the Dux. She threw the three innings allowing 1 unearned run on one hit, striking out one and walking one. "Emily threw a solid game today. She had good control as she has been working back form being sick recently." said coach Sliva.
Two Dux went long in the game. Morgan Patrick and Emily Kragt both hit three run home runs in the first inning to get the Dux up 9-0.
Kragt went 3 for 4, Avery Vugteveen when 2 for 3, Izzy Zamora was 2 for 2, Patrick and Carly Sleeman were 1 for 1. Taylor Zwagerman also added a hit for the Dux.
Dux improved to 8-3 on the season.

Dux Varsity Softball beat Allendale 6-1

Win: 6 - 1
Dux took the lead in the bottom of the first with great base running. Carly Sleeman started the game with a single and put herself in scoring position by stealing second and third while Emily Kragt was in the box. Kragt was walked and as she went directly to second, Sleeman capitalized and stole home.
Allendale tied the game in the top of the second. Dux responded and took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth scoring two runs. With two outs Alexa Brott hit a single. Maddie Wyckoff came up and hit a double down the left field line scoring Brott. Emily Brands followed and singled to score Wyckoff. Dux added to their lead in the fifth when Sleeman doubled. Taylor Zwagerman singled to score Sleeman.
They were not done there. The Dux scored two more in the sixth when Wyckoff singled to start the bottom of the sixth. Brands came up and homered to left field to put the Dux up 6-1 which would be the final score.
Sleeman, Wyckoff, and Brands had two hits. Zwagerman and Brott each added a hit in the victory.
Alexa Brott got the win on the mound. She threw seven innings allowing one unearned run on four hits, striking out ten and walking zero. "Alexa was really good on the mound. It's great when she has the support of the bats as it fuels her and the teams' momentum!" said coach Sliva. "The girls played for one another and put a full team effort to win this game. They were fired up from the first pitch to the final out."
Dux improved to 9-3 on the season and face 2021 Conference Co-Champs Wyoming on Tuesday at home at 4:15 for a double header.

Dux Varsity Softball lose to Grandville 0-3

Lose: 0 - 3
Dux played a single game on Friday night against the Grandville Bulldogs and came up short. The Bulldogs scored two in the first with a two run homerun, and added one in the top of the second. Dux then shut the door and the game went scoreless the rest of the way.
Emily Brands took the loss of mound. She three three innings allowing three runs on nine hits, striking out two and walking one. After the Bulldogs got up early, Brands settled in and finished the three innings well. Alexa Brott took the mound in the fourth and continued to shut the Bulldogs down. She threw four innings giving up no runs on two hits, striking out seven and no walks.
Emily Kragt went 3 for 4 to lead the Dux offense collecting a double and two singles. Maddie Wyckoff was good at the plate as well going 2 for 3. The two freshman were the only Dux to collect hits as the Grandville pitcher was good on the mound.
Dux move to 7-3 on the season. They play in Allendale for two games on Saturday. The first against Cedar Springs and the second against Allendale.

Sleeman Ends Game 2 with a Grand Slam over Holland Christian

The Dux continued to be strong with the bats in game two. They put up nine runs in the first inning and finished the game with Junior Carly Sleeman hitting a grand slam in the bottom of the third.
The Dux rallied after the Maroons turned a double play in the bottom of the third. Sophomore Izzy Zamora came to the plate and launched a solo home run over the fence. The Dux then scored three more with hits from Taylor Zwagerman, Alexa Brott, Maddie Wyckoff, Morgan Patrick, and solid at bat walks from Makena Moungkhoun and Avery Vugteveen before Sleeman ended the game with a grand slam to right center.
Sleeman, Zamora, and Zwagerman had multiple hits.
Freshman Maddie Wyckoff got the win on the mound in her first high school start. She threw three innings allowing one run on two hits, walking one and striking out two.
“We were extremely proud of Maddie and Emily tonight in the circle. They both were confident and had great composure and control. We look forward to their growth this season.” said coach Sliva.
Dux move to 7-2 on the season and host Grandville at home tomorrow at 4:30.

Kragt Delivers Four Hits to Zeeland West Dux Varsity Victory Over Holland Christian Varsity Maroons

Freshman Emily Kragt came to ballpark and meant business on Thursday, tallying four hits and leading Zeeland West Dux Varsity to a 16-1 win over Holland Christian Varsity Maroons. Kragt singled in the first, singled in the first, singled in the second, and singled in the fourth.
Zeeland West Dux Varsity secured the victory thanks to ten runs in the first inning. Zeeland West Dux Varsity big bats were led by Taylor Zwagerman, Alexa Brott, Avery Vugteveen, Carly Sleeman, Kragt, and Zwagerman, who each had RBIs in the inning.
Kragt pitched Zeeland West Dux Varsity to victory in her first varsity outing. Kragt allowed two hits and one run over four innings, striking out three and walking one.
K Smits took the loss for Holland Christian Varsity Maroons. The hurler went four innings, allowing 16 runs on 18 hits and striking out five.
Zeeland West Dux Varsity tallied 18 hits. Kragt, Brott, Izzy Zamora, Zwagerman, Sleeman, and Maddie Wyckoff each collected multiple hits for Zeeland West Dux Varsity. Kragt led Zeeland West Dux Varsity with four hits in four at bats.

Dux Varsity Softball sweep Reeths-Puffer by winning second game 5-3

Dux scored first in game two scoring three in the third and two more in the fourth innings to go up 5-0. Reeths-Puffer fought back, but fell short. The Dux won 5-3 to sweep the Rockets in OK Green Conference play.
Alexa Brott got the win for the Dux. She threw seven innings, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out 12 and walking zero.
Emily Brands, Makena Moungkhoun, Carly Sleeman, Emily Kragt, Izzy Zamora, and Taylor Zwagerman each managed one hit to lead Zeeland West Dux Varsity.
Dux improved to 5-1 in conference play and 5-2 overall. Dux go to Holland Christian on Thursday for double header.

Dux Varsity Softball beats Reeths-Puffer 7-4 in game 1

Dux took game one 7-4 in the OK Green Conference matchup on a cold night at Reeths-Puffer.
They got things started in the first inning. Carly Sleemand scored on a past ball and Taylor Zwagerman grounded out, scoring Emily Kragt.
Dux added three runs in the third inning to go up 5-1. Carly Sleeman and Izzy Zamora each drove in runs during the inning.
Emily Brands collected the win for the Dux. The pitcher lasted seven innings, allowing ten hits and four runs while striking out five and walking zero.
The Dux collected seven hits in the game. Kragt and Sleeman each had multiple hits to lead the offense. Zamora and Maddie Wyckoff each had singles and Morgan Patrick added a double.
Dux moved to 4-1 in conference play and 4-2 overall.

Dux fall in conference play against Mona Shores

The Dux took the lead twice in the game, but Mona Shores pulled away for good in the third inning winning 11-4.
Emily Brands took the loss on the mound going six innings allowing 11 runs on 12 hits, striking out 4 and walking 2.
Dux bats were quite only putting up five hits. Freshmen Emily Kragt had two of the four hits with a double and her first career homerun! Taylor Zwagerman, Alexa Brott, and Izzy Zamora each contributed hits.
Carly Sleeman was good on the bases stealing twice after being walked 4 times.
Dux move to 2-2 on the season (2-1 in OK Green Conference)

Dux win the second game of Conference Double Header against Mona Shores

Dux took the lead in the bottom of the first and never looked back taking game two of the conference double header 4-1.
Alexa Brott got the win on the mound going 7 innings allowing 1 run on 4 hits, striking out 13 and walking 2.
Brott led the team with the bat as well going 3 for 3 with two RBIs. Emily Kragt(singles) and Taylor Zwagermen(single, double) each had two hits. Carly Sleeman added a triple, and Maddie Wyckoff had a double for the nine hit victory for the Dux.
Defense was perfect with no errors committed.
Dux improved to 3-2 overall and 3-1 in OK Green Conference play. They have Grandville (non conference) on Friday.

Dux Varsity Softball falls to Unity

The Dux took a tough loss Tuesday night against a solid Unity Christian team.
The weather wasn't great, but it didn't slow down Unity who gave the Dux their first loss of the season winning10-0 in five innings.
Sophomore Alexa Brott took the loss on the mound. She threw five innings giving up twelve hits, striking out four and walking two.
Dux offense was stymied by Unity pitching and only put up two hits. Junior Carly Sleeman led the way and went 1 for 1 with a single and a walk. She also stole two bases. Brott added the other hit for the Dux.
"We play, we learn, and we grow." said coach Sliva. "Unity came to play and unfortunately we were not ready. They are a really good team and we had planned to be more competitive this early in the season."
Dux are 2-1 on the season and head to Softball World on Saturday to play in a tournament.

Dux Varsity softball win season opener against Muskegon

Senior Emily Brands threw a one hit shutout for the win in the Dux opener against Muskegon. She went three innings striking out five and walking zero.
Dux offense was led by freshman Emily Kraght who went 3 for 3 and scoring three runs. Five other Dux hitters had multiple hits. Brands, Senior Avery Vugteveen, Junior Carly Sleeman, and Sophomores Alexa Brott and Izzy Zamora. Senior Taylor Zwagerman collected the 14th hit for the Dux.
"Our hitters were disciplined at the plate and put the ball in play for our first game out with the weather we have had so far this Spring. We were happy to see that." said Coach Sliva.
Dux defense committed no errors in the game.

Dux Varsity Softball sweep Muskegon Lady Reds in Conference play

Sophomore Alexa Brott threw a perfect game to complete the sweep for the Dux over the Muskegon Lady Reds.
Brott threw three innings striking out all nine batters.
"Alexa looked good in her season opener and the bats were there to support her. We are proud the girls came to compete tonight and look forward to them improving every day" said Coach Sliva.
Junior Carly Sleeman led the Dux offense going 4 for 4 with three singles and a triple. Senior Taylor Zwagerman, Brott, Sophomore Izzy Zamora and freshman Maddie Wyckoff each had multiple hits. Senior Emily Brands, Sophomore Makena Moungkhoun, and Freshmen Emily Kraght and Maddie Veersma each collected a hit in the victory.
Dux improved to 2-0 on the season and 2-0 in the OK Green Conference.
