Dux Varsity Softball fought back after falling down by four runs in the sixth inning. The comeback fell just short though, in a 13-12 defeat to Oakridge Varsity Eagles on Wednesday in 10 innings.  The Dux put up nine runs in the failed comeback. Maddie Wyckoff, Emily Kragt,  Alexa Brott, Morgan Patrick, Kragt, and Taylor Zwagerman fueled the rally with RBIs.

Both teams exchanged the lead back-and-forth in the game, but the Eagles eventually took the lead for good thanks to a single in the tenth inning.

The Dux captured the lead in the second inning when Carly Sleeman singled, scoring one run. They were up 3-1 in the top of the fourth when the Eagles were able to rally and score three on a few errors and a questionable call down the third base line.

The Dux rallied for three runs in the seventh inning to take the game to extra innings.  The offensive onslaught came from a fielder's choice by Brott and a double by Kragt. In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Dux tied things up at ten when Zwagerman drove in one run.

Emily Brands took the loss for Zeeland West Dux Varsity. The pitcher allowed nine hits and seven runs over six and a third innings, striking out one and walking one.

Brott started the game for Zeeland West Dux Varsity. She went three and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on three hits and striking out six

The Dux collected 12 hits on the day. Kragt, Sleeman, Zwagerman, and Brands all managed multiple hits.  Sleeman and Kragt each managed three hits to lead the offense. Moungkhoun and Brott collected hits in the loss as well.

"That was an intense and exciting game." said coach Sliva. "Our girls gave it all they had and continued to fight until the very end. This is how we want to be playing at this point in the season. Our defense wasn't as strong as it can be and that let the Eagles back in the game. It was nice to see the girls come together and do what they needed to do to get the game into extra innings. Oakridge is a very good team, and it was a fun game."

Dux record moves to 13-6 overall. They have Jenison next on Friday night at home for a double header starting at  4:15p.
