Zeeland West Varsity Dux fell to Grand Haven Varsity Buccaneers 4-2 on Thursday.

Zeeland West Varsity Dux got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning after Grand Haven Varsity Buccaneers dropped a third strike, and Maddi Veersma walked, each scoring one run.

Haylie Alsip singled down the right field line, which helped Grand Haven Varsity Buccaneers tie the game at two in the top of the seventh.

In the top of the eighth, Grand Haven Varsity Buccaneers broke up the tie when Lorelei Chciuk doubled, scoring one run. Then a single by Ryley Jeltema followed to extend the lead to 4-2.

Chciuk earned the win for Grand Haven Varsity Buccaneers. The starter allowed three hits and two runs (zero earned) over eight innings, striking out 22 and walking two. Sadie Kragt took the loss for Zeeland West Varsity Dux. The pitcher went eight innings, surrendering three runs on 11 hits, striking out four and walking none.

Kragt, Madison Wyckoff, and Emily Kragt each collected one hit for Zeeland West Varsity Dux. Wyckoff went 1-for-4 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in.
