Dux Varsity Softball beats Hamilton 9-4 in second of Double Header

The Lady Dux started out quick in the second game to seal the victory in game two to remain unbeaten in OK Green Conference play. They scored four runs in the first and five runs in the second to jump to a 9-0 lead and didn't look back.

Lily Brower started the game with a double and was driven in by Maddie Sliva hitting a single to center. Kenzie Siersma then doubled to center field scoring Sliva. Sophie Zelenock was intentionally walked. Morgan Rush moved the runners to second and third with a ground out to second base. Then Brinzie Kalkman hit a single to center scoring two runs to put the Dux up 4-0.

Brower started the second inning with another double. Sliva singled to put runners on the corners.Siersma singles to left field scoring one. Rush hits a single to score two more. Then Katie Bruursema bunts to score Zelenock who reached on an error. Jordyn Smeyers also bunts to score another Dux runner to take the 9-0 lead.

Maddie Sliva improved to 4-0 in conference and took the win on the mound. She threw seven innings allowing two earned runs on ten hits, striking out three and walking two.

The Dux offense had several multi hit game performances. Three Dux went 2 for 4... Brower, Sliva, and Siersma. Additional key hits were provided by Rush, Bruursema, Smeyers, and Kalkman. Rush, Siersma, and Kalkman each drove in two runs a piece for the victory.

Defense was once again solid for the Dux only committing two errors in the game. Sliva had four put outs from the mound, Siersma three from shortstop, and Bruursema had two from third base. Zelenock was solid behind the plate keeping the ball in front of her and not allowing the Hawkeye runners opportunities to advance.

The Dux improved to 8-0 in conference and 14-4 overall. They are back in action this weekend as they participate in the Milan Invitational tournament in Hudsonville to fight cancer!
