HOLLAND CHRISTIAN HIGH SCHOOL: 2

The Dux girls varsity soccer team earned a hard fought come from behind 3-2 victory over Holland Christian. The Dux struck first less than 5 minutes into the match off a Kylee Winn (SR) throw-in deep in HC territory. Winn's throw found the feet of Sam Hecht (SR), who laid a perfect ball back into the feet of Abby Winn (FR) who buried her shot in the opposite corner. Holland Christian responded, scoring the next two goals taking a 2-1 lead just over halfway through the first half.

"After we got the quick goal, we seemed to get a little complacent and Holland Christian took advantage. For a 15-20 minute stretch, they put a lot of pressure on us and dictated the pace and style of the game."

After the second goal, the Dux responded less than 5 minutes later. Marielle Michmerhuizen (SO) got in behind the HC defense, cut the ball back on the end line and slotted a ball to Makenna Anderson (JR) on the near post. Rather than taking the shot, Anderson unselfishly laid the ball back towards the penalty spot where Abby Winn scored her second of the match. Winn almost made it a hat trick, but her shot less than 3 minutes later sailed just wide.

In the second half, the Dux regained control of the match and held possession and position much better. "We were more disciplined and patient after the break, and made it difficult for them to find space. Defensively, we made some adjustments and bent but did not break, and Taylor Twork (SR) kept a clean sheet in the second half. Keke Segaura (FR) and Andrea Valdes (SR) did an excellent job defensively in helping clog and control the middle, which allowed our offense to regain some of its rhythm and composure. Our back three (Lucy Bouvier (SR), Leaane Wyrick (SO) and Tally Martinez (JR) had another solid showing for us."

Samantha Hecht got the eventual game winner with about 20 minutes to play. Kylee Winn received a ball near midfield, turned towards the middle and played a long driven ball into the middle to Hecht. Sam beat their central defender, knocking the ball up and over the keeper before walking it into the net.

"I am really proud of the way our team responded once again after facing some adversity. We got outplayed for a stretch, but were able to weather the storm. This group continues to show their resiliency and composure under pressure. Tonight was well a well deserved, hard-fought victory over a good HC side."

Twork made 5 saves in net for the Dux. The Dux improve to 4-1-1 on the season (1-1-1 in the OK Green). They host Holland on Monday.
