It was an epic game for our Dux tonight who won their 1st district game in many years, and they did it with a penalty shootout victory 4-3.  It was a good battle from the very 1st whistle with both teams vying for the opening score.  I thought our team came out a little flat on the defensive side of the ball and that gave Allendale some early opportunities.  We drove in and were caught flat footed but we played well enough to keep them out of the net.  The Dux struck 1st on a take down inside the box that led to a pk goal by Eric Mapes.  Allendale never let up and continues to push forward but our defense held strong until an inadvertent hand ball in our box gave Allendale an equalizing ok and it stayed that way for the rest of the 80 minutes.  The game would go into overtime and and remain a 1-1 tie.  Branch McGeehan was unbelievably big in net for us tonight.  I thought we lost him early in the game when making a save he hit the left post in the middle of his back and had to be subbed out.  Trevor Terpstra played solid for us until Branch checked himself back in and dominated for us.  He was everywhere.  His positioning was perfect and he made some huge saves especially in overtime that were point blank.  In the shoot out he made a great save and got his hands on 2 more the just found their way into the net.  The Dux came out victorious when Caleb Smith stepped up to give us the 4-3 penalty shootout victory and a 2-1 final.  It was a great ending to a great night against a very good Allendale squad.  I was very proud of how we played and hope we can continue to play at a high level on Thursday.
