UNITY CHRISTIAN HIGH SCHOOL: 0
Carter DeJonge shut down Unity Christian, notching his 5th win of the season, while throwing a complete game shutout and leading the Zeeland West Dux varsity baseball team to a 6-0 victory on Friday. DeJonge allowed two hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out five.
Zeeland West racked up nine hits on the day. Corey Holtrust and Aden DeGraaf each had multiple hits for the Dux. Josh Agar, Carson Gulker, Joe Steele, Jake Kender, and Jack Aalderink each recorded one hit on the night to round out the Dux offensive attack.
The win capped a record-breaking week for the Zeeland West Dux. Tonight’s win was the 29th win of the season and the most in school history. The previous record of 27 wins was set in 2018. Multiple individual single season records were broken as well. Aden Degraaf broke the Dux single season hits record when he recorded his 50th hit of the season. Carson Gulker extended his grasp on the single season RBI record as he now sits with 47 on the year. Josh Agar broke two single season pitching records for the Dux this week as he now has the most wins on the mound in a single season as he achieved his 9th win on Tuesday. Josh Agar also broke the single season strikeout record for the Dux as he recorded his 90th strikeout of the year against Mona Shores on Tuesday as well. Corey Holtrust broke two Dux single season records as he broke the runs scored record when he scored for the 52nd time this season and the stolen base record when he swiped his 28th base of the year. Corey Holturst also broke the state of Michigan record for most times hit by a pitch. The first pitch of the game today hit Holtrust and made him the state record holder as it was the 30th time this year he was hit by a pitch. A special thanks to Diana Albers, Zeeland West’s head athletic trainer, for keeping all of our student-athletes healthy throughout the season. Especially the one who got hit by a pitch 30 times this year. “It has been an incredible week for our baseball program,” said head coach Adam Locker, “I am extremely proud to see so many individuals achieve their goals after putting so much work in to get to where they are at.”
The Zeeland West varsity baseball team (29-8 overall, 16-5 and 2nd Place in OK-Green) will wrap up the regular season as they head to Forest Hill Northern to take on the Huskies on Wednesday, June 2. The first pitch is set for 4:15p.
