Boys Cross Country Runs to Second Place Finish at Diamond Springs

The Boys Varsity Cross Country team competed in the conference championship meet at Diamond Springs Golf Course on October 15, 2024 finishing 2nd out of 7 teams. Coach Phil Hoover said about the race, “The course was good, good temperature, good weather, but we took advantage of it as well. The boys dug deep to put us in a good spot for regionals.”

Jr Keagan Smith ran a 16:19.3 and Jr. Robert Dodd ran a 16.22.1 finishing 3rd and 4th out of 58 runners. Jr Ethan Dalman (16.55.9) commented on the meet, “We all gave everything we had and made the best out of the race, but we know we need to look forward and prepare for regionals to be even better.”  Dux finished with an overall score of 67.

The Zeeland West boys varsity cross country team finished 2nd out of 12 in the Kent Ottawa County meet hosted at Calvin college’s Gainey Athletic Complex. Coach Phil Hoover commented on the race, “We took our lineup and divided it up appropriately based on strengths.” Jr Keagan Smith finished first in the 5k with a time of 16:31:74. Smith mentioned, “I was not expecting to win it today, but led the entire race pretty much by myself and took the dub.” Dux finished with a score of 16 in the 5k.
