The Zeeland West volleyball team lost 3-0 to Holland Christan at home on Monday October 28. The first two sets of the match were controlled by Holland Christan. The first set's score was 12-25 and the second set 11-25. The Dux came back stronger running a tight third set but ending 17-25.
Coach Elisabeth Crater said, “We saw some great performances today. Ava Lemire debuted as a labero. We really needed our senior leadership playing middleback so that's the spot Kendall Ruster filled. Our hitters I really liked were Neveah Baker and Hannah Vanderzwagg. They were both putting up the ball and even Sydney Bergsma had a really nice kill on the outside. So we didn't take any sets in the match, but I’m seeing a lot of improvement. Serves were in, we only missed one serve and that's something we've been working on.”
Sr. Neveah Baker talked about the team's atmosphere, “I think we did a very good job keeping a positive attitude and supporting our teammates. Our blocking was pretty good and we had a strong defense.”

West volleyball coach Elizabeth Crater stated, “We lost in three which is unfortunate, but we had some shining moments. Maggie Brower had some killer defense, I was super happy with that. Nevaeh Baker and Marget Alderink put the ball away. Kendall Ruster is leading the team with her defense and leadership. We had good movements in the middle. Hannah had some awesome kills. She hit one to zone one which really brought the moral of the team up. We're learning how to work together and will keep going through conference.”
Jr. Maggie Brower stated, “As a team we played well, even though we fell short. I think we put a lot of effort into our defense and offense. We had lots of good digs. We also communicated well, and I think that helped us become better as a team.”
