On Wednesday, September 25, Zeeland West hosted a match against Holland Christian at their home courts. Many flights held on tight while they competed in competitive sets. Although no flights won, they battled through a top team and held on strong, giving them confidence to go into conference next week Friday.
Coach Lance Mckinney stated, “We knew coming in that this would be a uphill battle, HC is extremely good (#1 in D4 as of the moment), however our guys played really hard and worked to improve and got many close sets.”
Multiple flights went into battle of deuces but sadly couldn’t come out with a win.
Dominic Szcerowski-1st doubles- stated, “That was probably the best match Quinn and I had played all year, even though we lost. It always feels good late into the season going into conference with confidence.”
The varsity tennis team is looking forward to their Quad this Saturday to prepare for Conference.

On Tuesday, September 23, Zeeland West Varsity tennis took on Hamilton at Zeeland’s home courts. The winners for the Dux were 2nd singles (Mikey Fuller), 3rd singles (Alexander Englesmen), 1st doubles (Dominic Szcerowski and Quinn Willette), 2nd doubles (Brady Smith and Bryce VanWort), 3rd doubles (Carter Meeuwsen and Laim DeHaan), and 4th doubles (Caleb Levandoski and David Dong).
West was determined to go in and win after a loss against Zeeland East last Wednesday. When asked about the match Coach Lance McKinney stated, “The boys came out and played really well and rebounded great after last week.”
Many flights played competitive sets.
When asked about his match Jr. Alexander Englesmen stated, “ It was a very strong first set and he fought back really strong in the second, but I was able to come through in the end.”Alexander won both sets of the match 6-1 and 6-3.
The Dux look forward to a very competitive match against Holland Christian this Wednesday, September 25.
In the conference match against East, Wednesday, September 18, Dux fought hard but lost 2-6. Winners for the Dux were Carter Meeuwsen and Liam DeHaan at 3rd doubles, and Caleb Levandoski and Trey Meeuwsen at 4th doubles.
After the match Coach Lance McKinney said, “ Today we had a lot of close matches. It's always fun to play East with that built in rivalry. Hopefully our guys will continue to get better and by the end of the season we will give ourselves a shot to give them a run.”
Although West lost some games, all the matches were close and many went to 3 sets. Winner, Carter Meeuwsan who plays 3rd doubles said, “We started off strong, and they kinda came back at first but we got it done. Second set we just coasted and ended up winning 6-3.”
The Dux look forward to coming back stronger for their match next week Monday against Hamilton.
In the second conference match this season, The Zeeland West Varsity tennis beat Holland 6-2 on Wednesday September 11, at Zeeland. Winners for the Dux were Luke Kaynor at 1st singles, Mikey Fuller at second singles, and Xander Engelsman at 3rd singles. Winning doubles matches for the Dux were Quinn Willette and Dom Szczerowski at 1st doubles Carter Meeuwsen and Liam DeHaan at 3rd doubles, and Trey Meeuwsen and Caleb Levandoski at 4th doubles.
After the match Coach Lance McKinney said, “Any time Holland comes in they play really tough. We were able to win some early matches. Overall it was a good day because we got the W.”
Only two matches went to three sets.
Jr. Mikey Fuller, 2nd singles, said, “Most of my shots were working today and I controlled the match.”
After getting the win, the Dux look forward to their next match against Unity Christian.
