HAMILTON MIDDLE SCHOOL: 0
The boys 8th grade soccer team overcame the heat and the humidity in beating the Hawkeyes of Hamilton, 2-0 yesterday. After a scoreless half, the Dux scored one goal in the third quarter and another in the fourth to remain unbeaten on the season. Andrew Edwards scored the first goal after Sammy Salas beat several defenders in getting to the endline. Salas' cross lofted over the keepers outstretched arms and into the path of Edwards, who half-volleyed it into the back of the net.
Salas earned a goal of his own after receiving a ball from Diego Mendoza just outside the penalty box. Salas slotted the ball past the keeper, diving to his right.
A staunch defensive effort by the Dux limited the Hawkeyes to just a single shot on goal off of an indirect kick. Tyler Dykstra earned the shutout, while the Dux midfield (Virgil Keomoungkhoune, Austin Mansaray, Andrew Edwards, Joey DeWeerd, and Carter Hughes) controlled the game from the start. The Dux are 5-0-1 on the season, and play Grand Haven next week Tuesday. way to go boys!
