Boys Dux win Rockford Track and Field Invite. Girl's place 5th out of 6 teams.

The boy’s Dux keep things rolling coming off their Thursday win as another solid performance claims them as overall champs the Rockford Invitational. The competitive 6-team field consisted of East Grand Rapids, Grand Ledge, Northville, Rockford, Zeeland East, and Zeeland West. Zeeland West showed their overall depth by scoring points in 14 of the 17 events. In addition, the Dux claimed several medals (top 3) throughout the meet.

Highlights include sophomore’s Carson Holwerda (23.99 sec) and Abel Boetsma (24.02 sec) setting person records in the 200m to claim the top two spots. Holwerda also set a personal record in his open 400m win with a time of 51.52 sec. Senior Matt Converse won the 800m with a time of 2:05. Converse was also part of the winning 4x800 relay team that also consisted of teammates Ethan Senti, Luke Munsey, and Josh Ennen with a time of 8:28, finishing 21 seconds ahead of second place Northville.

In the field events, Evan Eding (19 ft 8 in) and Ben Brooks (19 ft 4 in) went 1-2 in the long jump, both setting personal records. Junior Tanner Thompson’s person record of 44 ft 9 in earned him a third place finish in the Shot. In addition her finished second in the discus (123 ft 7 in).

The Dux have a short recovery before they take on a tough OK Green conference match against Holland on Tuesday.
