Zeeland West had a solid opening season performance at the GVSU Laker Challenge. The young Dux team showed poise in both relay events, as well as capturing two top 8 finished in field events.

GVSU's 300 meter indoor track opens up the opportunity for some non-traditional events, including their two relay events, the 4x300m and 4x600m. In the 4x300, Raina Raval Tara Achterhof, Marcy Creevy, Izzy Sgroia earned a 6th place medal with a respectable time of 3:05.71. Likewise, in the 4x600m, Avery Schenk, Ellie Roberts, Emma Dykens, and Ana Dekyruter earned an 8th place medal with a time of 7:44.34.

It will be interesting to see how the Dux transition those results into the traditional 4x100, 4x200, 4x400, and 4x800. It would mean running either a shorter or longer distance for some of those same runners. They will have a chance to find out in their upcoming meet against Grand Haven Monday.

Other notable individual performances include a 3rd place pole vault jump of 10'00 by junior Emily Tummel. Jumping a lifetime best, Junior Rose Dunlap cleared 5'10 in high jump. Both results have been a testament of not only skill and talent, but a dedicated off season of conditioning.
