Dux start season opener with conference wins over Zeeland East and Byron Center. In what could potentially be considered one of the most gutsy and difficult races they will race this season, it was excited to see the Dux perform so well in the difficult circumstance. Extreme heat and humidity, a monster hill racers run twice, and solid competition tested runners physical and mental abilities.
Official scores on the guys race included the boys defeating Zeeland East, with a score of 22 to 33 (low score wins). In addition, they swept Byron Center by placing their top five racers in front of Byron Center's top runner creating a perfect score of 15 to 40. Top finisher for the Dux, and winning the overall race, finishing exactly a minute faster than the next runner, was Ethan Senti with a time of 16:51 for a 5k.
Official scores for the ladies race included winning against both Zeeland East and Byron Center with a score of 25 to 30. Top finisher for the Dux, and 4th overall in the race was Tally Martinez with a time of 21:10 for a 5k. Perhaps the biggest accomplishment for the ladies was how well the Dux performed as a team. By their performance, you wouldn't believe 14 of their 21 runners competed in a high school cross country race for the first time. They showed maturity and poise for one of the most inexperienced team competing today.
Way to go Dux!
