Game Date
Apr 25, 2023
Score
: 4.00
REETHS-PUFFER HIGH SCHOOL: 4.00

The Dux varsity soccer team got off to a fast start against Reeths Puffer, but gave up a late equalizer to earn a hard fought and physical 4-4 draw. Marissa Ybarra gave the Dux the early lead after Rylee Smith got in behind the Rocket defense. Smith drove hard towards the end line before cutting the ball back to a wide open Ybarra for the tap in. Reeths Puffer would respond by scoring the next two goals to take a 2-1 lead with about 15 minutes left to go in the first half. Rylee Terpstra was dragged down in the penalty box shortly before halftime, and Jordyin Klaasen buried the ensuing PK knotting the score at 2-2 heading into the break.

Reeths Puffer took a 3-2 lead before Klaasen was taken down in the penalty box. Her ensuing PK to the keepers left tied the game at 3-3. The Dux took a 4-3 lead that was very similar to the opening goal, with Smith attacking the endline on the left side. This time, her cross found Brooklyn Geerlings on the far post for the tap in. Unfortunately for the Dux, Reeths Puffer scored the equalizer with less than 5 minutes to play. Despite a fast and furious ending, the game ended in a 4-4 draw.

"We did a lot of things right tonight, generating many good scoring chances. We generated enough chances to put the game out of reach, especially in the second half - unfortunately, we didn't finish enough of them. Give credit to Reeths Puffer - they were resilient tonight and were efficient with their counterattack, making us pay for being careless with the ball. There are many positive takeaways and learning opportunities we can use to continue building momentum and confidence as we move through our season from a game like this. Although the end result is a little disappointing, our effort, physicality and energy were good throughout."
The Dux are 4-0-2 on the season, and 2-0-2 in the OK Green. They travel to Wyoming on Thursday...
