ST. JOSEPH HIGH SCHOOL: 0.00

The Dux varsity soccer team played their third game in four days coming off of spring break, as they hosted St. Joseph in a rematch of last year's regional semifinal match. The Dux beat the Bears, 1-0, as Brooklyn Geerlings (or was it Marissa Ybarra?) scored the only goal of the match in the first half following a mad scramble in front of the St. Joe net. Ybarra thought she had added an insurance goal minutes later, only to have it called back because of a delayed foul call. The Dux generated several quality chances in the second half, but were unable to extend their lead. Samarah Arendsen made 6 saves to keep the clean sheet, earning her third shutout of the season.

"St. Joe is a talented and dangerous team - very physical on the ball, technically sound and well organized through the midfield. We have developed a nice rivalry with the past 3 seasons, with all matches being closely contested. Mentally and physically, it is really hard to play three games in four days, but I thought we managed this match really well. Ally Yonker, Caiti Grant, Jordyn Klaasen, Kayla Wyrick and Abby Habers played really well defensively, and our central midfielders - Amarra Blattner, Rylee Terpstra, Bella Cifuentes and Emma Boersma - really helped control the pace and tempo of the game. Throughout the week, we improved with each match and continue working on building consistency as we learn to play together. Very proud of our energy and effort tonight - a great win against a great team in what has become a fun rivalry match."

The Dux improve to 3-0-1 on the season. They travel to Muskegon on Tuesday for their next match.
