The Dux girls varsity soccer team defeated Reeths-Puffer 1-0 on Tuesday night. After a fairly even and physical first half, the Dux began asserting themselves and really kept the Rockets pinned back in their own end. The lone goal of the game came about midway through the second half. Anna Miller beat a defender on the outside and cut the ball back across the face of goal, where Amarra Blattner found herself all alone on the far post for the tap in. The Dux thought they had added an insurance goal less than 5 minutes later, when Abby Winn slipped a ball between the two center backs near midfield to Marissa Ybarra, who sidestepped the keeper and slipped it into the back of the net. Unfortunately, the play was ruled offsides and the score remained 1-0.

"A truly great battle between two talented teams. Reeths-Puffer has several good players with size, speed and skill. Our defense held its shape and communicated really well tonight, which kept them from mounting much of a serious threat. Although we did give up a couple of set pieces, we really limited their scoring opportunities. Offensively, we are beginning to understand how to move off the ball, and change the point of attack. We did a really good job of playing out of pressure and finding gaps and seams to attack, keeping them on their heels most of the second half. Really proud of our team, their resilience, patience and execution of our game plan tonight. They managed all facets of the match really well against a dangerous team. A win like this is great for our confidence as we continue with conference play." 

Grace Caywood made 5 saves on the night between the pipes for the Dux, who are noww 3-1-1 on the season (2-0-1 in the OK Green). They host Wyoming on Thursday.
