The Dux varsity soccer team suffered a heartbreaking loss to Mona Shores, the top ranked team in the conference, 2-1. In a physical matchup, the Dux played well and were able to thwart a potent Mona Shores attack for most of the first half. "Physically, we matched up with them well today, especially in the first half. We played with intelligence and resilience. Defensively, we clamped down on them really well, causing them to become frustrated."

Abby Winn put the Dux up 1-0 in the first half after weaving through the midfield, driving to the endline before roofing a near post shot from 10 yards out. "We were already playing well, but Abby's goal gave us a surge energy and confidence heading into the half."

The Sailors would get the equalizer less than 10 minutes into the second half after an attacking player got free on the far post and slotted a ball past Grace Caywood. The Sailors tallied the winning goal midway through the second half off of a nice header at the far post.

The Dux did not give up, and played with more purpose and drive over the final 15 minutes, but were unable to get the equalizer. "Our kids somehow found the energy to pick it up offensively after that second goal. We continued to press and were able to get in behind their defense, but just couldn't convert. So proud of the energy and effort today, despite the end result. Mona is a good team, and we went head to head with them and were in the match for 80 minutes - despite being a bit shorthanded with injuries. Our backline (Anna Girman, Tia Martinez, Leanne Wyrick, Rylee Terpstra) really managed their weapons up top, and Grace Caywood did everything but stand on her head in net to keep us in the game."

The Dux will face Holland in the consolation match of the OK Green Conference tournament on Monday.
