On senior night Friday night, the girls varsity soccer team jumped out to a fast start over Grand Rapids Union, taking a 3-1 lead into the half. Aaliyah Ybarra opened the scoring off of a nice assist from Abby Winn. Anna Miller found the back of the net after receiving a great pass from Abby Gruppen. Winn scored the third goal of the half after completing a clever 1-2 passing combination at the top of the box resulting in a tap in for Winn. 

"Getting out to a fast start was really important because we were down a couple of players that normally start for us. For much of the first half, we dictated the tempo and style of play, and did a great job of finding time and space to possess and move the ball around the field."

The second half was a different story, as Union scored 2 goals on quick counter-attacks over the final 40 minutes to earn the tie.

"Honestly, I am not quite sure what happened in the second half. We had all of the momentum and were playing well, but the momentum shifted drastically after their second goal. We struggled staying connected on both sides of the ball and really got away from what gave us success in the first half."

Immediately following the game, the four seniors - Leanne Wyrick, Morgan O'Connell, Mari Michmerhuizen and Aaliyah Ybarra - were celebrated and recognized in front of family and friends.
