HAMILTON COMMUNITY SCHOOLS: 1
The Dux girls soccer team tied Hamilton, 1-1 on a windy and cool Monday afternoon. From the opening kick-off, the Dux seized control early and dominated possession throughout the first half. Abby Winn, Amely Molina, and Aaliyah Ybarra controlled the midfield and did a great job of distributing and spreading the ball.
"We played really intelligent and simple soccer in the first half, despite playing into the wind."
Anna Miller scored her second goal of the season, off of an assist from Abby Winn. Winn drove down the right side, beating the last defender and slotting a ball back across the box. Miller redirected the pass into the back of the net. The Dux led 1-0 at half.
The second half was more of the same, with the Dux dominating possession and forcing the Hawkeyes to exert a lot of energy defending. Despite generating multiple chances, the Dux failed to find the back of the net a second time. Hamilton scored the equalizer with less than 10 minutes to go. For the match, the Dux outshot Hamilton 12 - 3, and Grace Caywood made 2 saves.
"We had a game plan going into the match today, and we executed it really well. The only thing missing today was our ability to finish our chances. We played with a lot more confidence and poise tonight. Our kids came out with the right mindset tonight and dictated the tempo and pace the entire game. Very proud of our effort and energy today."
The Dux have a short turn around as they take on Holland Christian on Tuesday night.
