HAMILTON COMMUNITY SCHOOLS: 2

The Dux girls varsity soccer team earned a hard fought come from behind 2-2 draw against Hamilton Wednesday night. The Dux went down 0-1 midway through the first half, after an unlucky bounce inside the penalty box resulted in a correctly called hand ball. The Lady Hawkeyes converted on the penalty kick. The Dux would respond. Shortly after entering the game, Brooklyn Lloyd (JR) received a ball on the left side and played it through to Samantha Hecht (SR). Sam used some quick footwork to get around her defender with the ball and was able to slip it under the charging Hawkeye keeper. The Hawkeyes would regain the lead shortly before the half after getting in behind the Dux defense before a perfect cross found an open Hawkeye for the one time redirection into the back of the net.

Then Mother Nature stepped in... Both teams had an extended halftime, as thunder and lightning delayed the start of the second half by nearly an hour. When the teams finally returned to the field, both teams put immediate offensive and defensive pressure on one another, generating quality chances on both ends of the field. The Dux got the equalizer off of a Kylee Winn (JR) corner kick. Winn's right footed corner was flicked on by sister Abby (FR) and into the box. Gina Pung (SR) pounced on the redirection and buried the ball in the back of the net.

"Really proud of the resiliency of our team tonight. We responded appropriately after the unfortunate bounce in the box in the first half, and came out focused and intentional after the long weather delay. We were able to dictate the style of the game for most of the second half. Defensively, we made some adjustments that made it more difficult for them to get on the end of some of their crosses. Offensivley, we got them moving side to side a bit more which created opportunities for us. Very proud of our midfield and defense today."

The Dux are 3-1-1 on the season, and 0-1-1 in the OK Green. The travel to Holland Christian tomorrow. Varsity plays @ 4:00, JV to follow at 5:45. Taylor Twork had another solid outing in net for the Dux, making 8 saves.
