The Dux girls soccer team dropped a close OK Green conference match at home for the first time this season, falling to the Hawkeyes of Hamilton, 1-2.
The Dux took a 1-0 lead with about 4 minutes remaining the half after a Hawkeye defender was called for a hand ball in the box. Sam Hecht converted the resulting penalty kick by smashing the ball low and to the left of the Hawkeye GK Hannah Knapp.
"Honestly, we struggled in the first half with their physicality and toughness. We started a little slowly and had a difficult time generating any momentum offensively. Hamilton played solid defensively and deserve credit for a solid game plan."
The Hawkeyes knotted the score 1-1 less than 5 minutes into the 2nd half after an unfortunate ricochet off a Dux defender, allowing a 1-1 situation with Dux GK Ryleigh Farrell. The ensuing shot slipped by Farrell and into the back of the net. Hamilton notched the eventual game winner with about 15 minutes to play.
"Offensively, we came out flat and never fully recovered. The difference in the game came down to scoring chances - they generated more than we did, and it paid off for them."
The Dux fall to 2-2-2 on the season, and 1-2 in the OK Green. The Dux travel to Holland to take on the Dutch on Wednesday.
