UNITY CHRISTIAN HIGH SCHOOL: 3

The Dux soccer team lost a close, hard fought battle Wednesday night against the Crusaders of Unity Christian, 2-3. The Dux took an early 1-0 lead 13:00 into the first half off of a tap in goal by Samantha Hecht. Hecht made a run onto a slotted ball near the top of the 18 yard box and beat the onrushing UC goal keeper before tapping the ball into an empty net. Unity would recover less than 30 seconds later on a breakaway, beating Dux goal keeper Ryleigh Farrell to the far post. The Dux took a 2-1 lead in the 26th minute off of an inbounds play. Kyarra Blattner's throw into the box to Sam Hecht was perfectly place. Hecht gathered the ball, turned and fired a left footed laser between three Crusader defenders that snuck between the keeper's legs and over the goal line. Unity would capitalize on a corner kick in the waning minutes of the 1st half, to knot the score 2-2 heading into the break.

Unity Christian scored the game winner off the opening kickoff less than 30 seconds into the second half. A slotted ball between two Dux defenders allowed a Crusader to gather a ball near the top of the box and fire a hard shot over the right shoulder of Farrell.

"We are a little disappointed in the end result, especially giving up that last goal right after halftime. Their player made an intelligent run across and behind our back line and we were just a little too late in reacting. That being said, we played a more complete game tonight. Defensively, we made some great adjustments as a team, and did a nice job of disrupting their timing and rhythm. We also recovered well and played with intelligence and poise in back. Our midfield is starting to play with a little more confidence. We had good vision and movement both on and off the ball in the midfield tonight, which caused some problems for them defensively. With each game, our young players continue gaining experience and confidence. Our effort tonight reinforces our belief that we can play with anybody. Although we are disappointed with the end result, our girls played really well tonight against a tough Unity Christian squad. Love the energy, the class, and the confidence with which we play."

The Dux fall to 1-1 in OK Green conference play (2-1-2 overall) and return to action next Monday at home in a non-conference matchup against Wayland.
