UNITY CHRISTIAN HIGH SCHOOL: 37
Zeeland West won their season opener at Unity Christian behind two great quarters of defense that started and ended the game to win 49-37. The Dux started the game off fast, building a 14-0 lead by the end of the 1st quarter. Unity Christian was able to turn it around and get going offensively in the 2nd quarter and closed the gap to 25-18 heading into halftime. Unity continued their success to start the 3rd quarter and even took the lead, but the Dux fought back to regain the lead and make it 35-33 heading into the final quarter. The Dux then outscored Unity 14-4 behind a strong defensive effort to close out the victory.
Kara Bartels had a strong offensive performance with 18 points. Tia Martinez contributed 7 points and Abby Winn chipped in 6.
The Dux play at Hamilton on Friday for their next contest.
