The Lady Dux opened their season against a tough West Ottawa team on Friday night. The Dux struggled to get into an offense rhythm in the first quarter only scoring 4 points. Kaylee Bakker and Marcy Creevy each added some offense from behind the 3 point line in the 2nd quarter and helped the Dux cut the lead to only 2 going into halftime. A great defensive effort was led by Tally Martinez with 4 steals and Aaliyah Ybarra with 2. The strong defensive front was what helped keep the Dux in the game. Forcing turnovers, getting stops and blocked shots were all things that help contribute to a solid defensive performance.
Unfortunately the Lady Dux struggled to get into a flow offensively in the second half and West Ottawa was able to take away the driving lanes, forcing the Dux to shoot too often from the outside. This was a great first game to gain a lot of experience against a talented West Ottawa team. The girls are looking forward to their first home game on Tuesday against Coopersville.
