After starting the game down 25-9, the JV Dux finished the game on a 49-23 run to win their sixth game in a row, moving to 6-1 (5-1) on the season. 

"Starting a game the way we did is nightmarish," Coach Ray said. "Union really took it to us in the first 12 minutes of the game, but luckily for us, we felt as though every adjustment that needed to be made was a simple one. Most essentially was our defensive positioning. Once guys started working earlier to get where we need them to be, good things started happening."

The Dux went into halftime down 32-21. 

"Ethan Haskill (2023) came in and gave us a much-needed spark in the first half, scoring his first bucket of the season," Coach Ray said. "Guys like Ethan, Sterling Shepard (2033), Owen Telgenhof (2023), and Alex Lencioni (2023) did an awesome job of keeping energy up on the bench and on the court when they had their opportunity. In practice, we talked about our energy needing to increase when things are not going our way, and that group took it to heart."

In the second half, the team's defensive positioning was much improved, leading to a 36-16 run to end the game. 

"I hope the second half showed us what we were capable of," Ray said. "Defensively, we locked in and trusted our positioning and getting to the right spots to help out our teammates. Offensively, we stopped settling for decent shots and started seeking out excellent shots, which are at the rim and kick-outs to shooters."

Luke Bakker (2024) led the team with 18 points, while Myles Steffen (2024) chipped in 15 points, and Deklen Klamt (2023) scored nine. 

The Dux are back in action on Saturday, February 27 at the Dutch Dome, where they will take on Holland High. Freshmen tip off at 10:00am, with JV to follow around 11:30am, and Varsity around 1pm.
