After a sloppy first quarter, the JV Dux boys basketball team settled in to defeat Byron Center by a score of 43-30. The Dux started the first quarter down 7-2, but turned up their energy to overtake the Bulldogs.

"Energy makes a huge difference," Coach Ray said. "We need to find a way to come out with energy from the opening tip, rather than waiting for a team to take a quick lead on us. Nevertheless, I am proud of our guys for finding that needed energy sooner rather than later."

Bergen Loeprich ('22) led the way with 21 points. Six other Dux tallied points in the victory.

"Bergen did a nice job of attacking. We were challenged in our ability to make shots from deep, and when shots are not falling, good teams find other ways to score. Bergen's ability to get to the hoop helped us out big time," Coach Ray said.

The win moves the Dux to 8-3 (5-1) on the season. They will be back in action on Friday, January 31 against Allendale at Zeeland West. The game will tip around 5:30pm. 

"Friday night should be an awesome atmosphere," Coach Ray said. "We are looking forward to seeing all of the young Dux basketball players who came to our camp this winter in the stands, and it will be a good experience to play on an energetic Friday night."
