HAMILTON COMMUNITY SCHOOLS: 43
Bergen Loeprich ('22) came out on fire for the JV Dux on Tuesday night, scoring all 11 of the team's points in the first quarter in a 70-43 win over Hamilton, moving the team to 6-3 (3-1) on the season. Loeprich was one of eleven Dux players to tally points in the box score.
"We loved seeing this aggressive and confident version of Bergen tonight," Coach Ray said. "He missed a few weeks at the beginning of the season battling injuries, and it seems as though his legs are back. It's super exciting for our team moving forward."
The Dux were hot from the outside in the first half, hitting seven three-pointers on their way to a 35-21 halftime lead.
"We were getting great rhythm shots, and the guys know by now that those are more likely to go in for us," Coach Ray said. "I'm proud of the guys for not settling for threes in the second half. We used our hot shooting to then take advantage of driving lanes in the second half."
Keigan Wiersma ('22) returned from injury to score eight points off the bench, while Kylan Arnold ('22) had 14 points, Drew Weenum ('22) had nine points, and Cade Overweg ('22) had seven points.
"Our guys love playing together as a team. Now, as more and more guys return from injury, it is exciting to see how we spread the wealth on the offensive end," Coach Ray said.
Of course, there is always room to improve.
"Hamilton out-hustled us during a couple of stretches, and we lacked intensity on defense at times. We need to have a consistent defensive intensity for nights when our shots aren't falling like they did tonight," Coach Ray said.
The Dux will hit the road to take on Unity Christian on Thursday, January 23 at 6:30pm.
