A 17-4 third quarter run propelled the JV Boys basketball team to a 57-40 victory at West Ottawa on Tuesday night. The Dux were led by Drew Weenum ('22) and Kylan Arnold ('22), who both scored 18 points. Trevor Wallar ('23) and Cade Overweg ('22) chipped in eight points a piece.

"Our ball movement was beautiful to watch," Coach Ray said. "The guys played unselfishly, almost too unselfishly at times, but that allowed for us to extend possessions before finding lanes to attack."

Defensively, the Dux were stout, holding the Panthers to 8 points and 4 points in the first and third quarters, respectively. 

"We showed real promise defensively, especially to start each half," Coach Ray said. "However, there are still so many things that we need to clean up. We put them on the free throw line 32 times, which is unacceptable. And we allowed Reid Reimink from WO to get hot. He had 21 of their 40 points. While I am content with our effort, I am far from satisfied."

The Dux will be back in action at Zeeland West on Tuesday, December 17 against Coopersville.

"I love how our players got our season off on the right foot," Coach Ray said. "However, we still have a long way to go to get to where we want to be. We will continue to trust the process and work to get better this week in practice."
