ZEELAND EAST HIGH SCHOOL: 53
The Zeeland West JV Dux lost a tough one to the rival Zeeland East Chix on Tuesday, Jan. 8 by a score of 49-53. Despite the strong shooting from Avery Alderink and Walter Bouvier, the Dux could not get over the hump. "We were right there with them, but Zeeland East did some things that we had not prepared for," Coach Ray said. "Personally, I need to do a better job of preparing guys for different schemes and looks." The Dux were down eight points at halftime, and were able to cut the lead to four points a few times in the second half. "East's size bothered us quite a bit. We need to do a better job of fronting their post players and then boxing out when the shot goes up," Coach Ray said. "Rivalry games are always emotional. We will be ready for our next matchup with them." The Dux face another conference rival in Holland Christian on Thursday, Jan. 10 at home.
