The JV Dux started off the New Year with a big win against the Allendale High School JV team, by a score of 48-41. Eight different players scored for the Dux, making it a whole team effort. "Our players, number 1 through number 12, have completely bought in to the team," Coach Ray said. "They are a completely unselfish group, and they are genuinely happy to see, and help, each other succeed." The Dux started off the game on a 9-2 run, before letting Allendale inch back in. At halftime, the Dux led 23-20. In the third quarter, the Dux offense got going, scoring 17 points to take a 40-33 lead. In the fourth quarter, Allendale again tried to chip away at the lead, drawing as close as 40-39. In what was a quiet playing atmosphere, the Dux made their own noise on the court and from the bench, stemming from their defensive intensity. Led by the individual defense of Jake Kender, and the swarming help side defense from the likes of Joe Steele, Terick DeJonge, and Walter Bouvier, the Dux were able to get some important stops, and make some big plays on the offensive end to eventually win 48-41. "I thought Jake Kender's defense was the spark for our victory," Coach Ray said. "Allendale had a very good player who got hot behind the 3-point line, and Jake took it upon himself to shut him out over the final few minutes of the game." Offensively, the Dux were led by Terick DeJonge (17 points) and Walter Bouvier (12 points, including three 3's), who was making his first start of the season. The Dux will face off with their rival, the Zeeland East Chix, on Tuesday at 4pm at Zeeland East High School.
