FENNVILLE HIGH SCHOOL: 51
The Boys JV basketball team lost a hard fought game against Fennville on Tuesday, Dec. 4 by a score of 51-49. Terick DeJonge led the way for the Dux with 17 points, all coming in the second half. In all, eight members of the team entered the box score. The Dux were down 20-24 at halftime, and went down by 10 early in the second half. However, a furious comeback fueled by the defense of Joe Steele and Walter Bouvier got the team back in the game. The run was capped off by an acrobatic reverse layup by Brenden Williams. After three quarters, the Dux cut the lead to two points. In the fourth quarter, Fennville and the Dux traded the lead a few times, but in the end, there was not enough time for a full comeback, and ultimately, the Dux lost by two. "I thought this first game really showed us how hard we need to play from start to finish. Our defensive intensity did not pick up until the second quarter, resulting in us having to play catch-up. Nevertheless, I was so impressed with the fight that our guys showed. All twelve players, from our starters to our bench guys, were locked in. They never quit," Coach Ray said. "If a few 50-50 plays go our way, we walk out with a victory. I am excited to see how these players respond in the coming days in practice as we prepare for our next game." The Dux are back in action on Friday, Dec. 7 as they travel to Reeths-Puffer High School for a boys basketball triple-header.
