After a hard fought loss to East on Tuesday night, the Dux hosted Grand Rapids Union tonight.  West bottled up Union in the first quarter only giving up 3 points while scoring 12.  West got 18 points in the paint in the second quarter behind freshmen, Merritt Alderink (20 points), and Carson Gulker (14 points).  Union trailed West 30 to 14 after the first half.  The Dux defense was suffocating again in the third quarter only giving up 6 points while the Dux got rolling with 21 points in the third punctuated by a thunderous dunk from Alderink.  Avery Alderink (2 points and multiple assists) continued the strong defense in the fourth by taking a charge and firing up the bench.  Cade Overweg (1 point) and Mitch Middleton got in the action with a few beautiful assists in the 2nd half while Middleton also knocked down a three early in the fourth for his first varsity points.  The Dux won the game 58-31.  They will match up with their conference rival the Holland Dutch on Saturday at the Dome.  It is a matchup of two teams battling for conference positioning with identical 3-3 records within the conference.
