Junior Varsity vs West Ottawa High School (2 - 2) Tie The ZW Boys JV Soccer team opened their season with a hard fought 2-2 draw against a very skilled and organized West Ottawa team last night. It was the first outing in their new turf complex, and a good start against a high quality opponent. After going down 0-1 midway through the first half, the Dux drew even when freshman Ian Pope floated a high cross from the left side over the outstretched arms of the keeper. Sophomore Will Elenbaas applied pressure to a West Ottawa defender which resulted in an own goal. The teams ended the half in a 1-1 draw. West Ottawa took a 2-1 lead after converting a penalty kick for an indavertant and unlucky handball in the penalty box. Sophomore Thyson Touch netted the equalizer after receving a ball from Will Elenbaas near midfield, turning his defender and beating the keeper in a one on one. The Dux had two quality opportunities to net the win in the waning moments of the game, but the West Ottawa keeper made two consecutive saves with less than two minutes to go. With time running out, Camdyn Klaasen fired a last second cross towards the goal which was deflected high into the air. But Ian Pope's last second header attempt sailed harmlessly over the net. The Dux next match is home against Unity Christian on Wednesday, August 26.
